Yeah but asking your 4 biggest influential players to take paycuts, getting rid of club legends & accepting releases for promising future stars, then buying a whole squads worth of new players does not seem the right way to fix it.
Imagine Bennett getting rid of Gidley & Mullen, asking Boyd, Mason, Scott & J.Smith to take paycuts then buying like 15 fringe first-graders. The place would go insane.
I think Penrith just need to slowly weed out players each year, get the big stars to sign new lesser contracts or get rid of them when they are actually off-contract. But instead they are trying to overhaul the squad in 1 year which isn't great for the fans, but you never know, it might yet work out.

Just on Folau, why the hell does Gasnier get to sign a small contract for his first year but Folau doesn't? It's practically the same situation, the NRL can't even keep their off the field rules consistent.
