2013 NRL Player Rumours & Signings

I don't wanna get in a big thing about it, but here's the Warriors NSW Cup gf side last year:

8. James Gavet
9. Alehana Mara
10. Jeremy Latimore
11. Ukuma Taai

14. Darin Kingi
15. Mataupu Poching
16. Tulson Caird
17. Steve Rapira

Plus they had Shaun Berrigan, Jerome Ropati and Joel Moon injured and not playing in the gf ... the very fact they made the gf in all three grades I thought would indicate they had fairly good depth, but you just have to look at those names to see that there's plenty of first grade experience (whether they played a lot of first grade this year or not).
 
Only like 3 of them are established first graders so again I dont see the similarities, Panthers are going to have at least 10-15 first graders in reserve grade. I know its important to have depth but Im sure Cleary's focus is on his NRL making the grand final, not recruiting to help the NSW Cup and Toyota Cup teams be powerhouses. Cut back on signing these fringe first graders and get some actual high quality talent signed up.
 
I think their salary cap situation prevents that. Sign any more highly paid players and they will have around 50 cents to divide up amongst the remaining 20 players in the squad.

I wasn't meaning Cleary's aim was to get all three sides in the grand final, rather that his aim is to have competition for spots, meaning each player produces their best in order to get a spot in first grade. If you didn't notice the rotation of players between NSW Cup and first grade while Cleary was at the Warriors then that's just your lack of observation. Loads of those players in the NSW Cup side played first grade in 2011, and it wasn't though injury - and if not for those three injuries on gf day I mentioned, there'd have been three more first grade players in that side.

Ruben Wiki, Lance Hohaia, Manu Vatuvei ... all played NSW Cup while at the Warriors, amongst a host of others.

And it's fine to have players fight for spots but I don't see the point in having so many players waiting in hope someone stuffs up or gets injured. But he's the NRL coach, not me so I'm sure he knows what he's doing. I know though I'd rather have a top 20 of high quality players and then depend on the fringe graders and juniors as depth then having 4 teams made up of fringe players and rotating them around.

On the first page is says that Chris Knight is lost by Penrith Panthers to the Knights but his not in our gains :/
 
Thanks Godley! I remember putting him in the gains but another mod must've took him out. Fixed now!
 
The Cowboys have re-signed Winterstein and Tamou for another 3 years untill the end of the 2016 season.
For me this is 2 great re-signings for the Cowboys, Tamou is one of the best props in the game and is only going to get better as the years go on he will be playing his prime years at the cows so they would be stocked about that.

I'm real excited for the Tigers next year. New coach with a hardass attitude, some exciting young players being given the chance to impress in pre-season & genuinely have a chance at making the team.

I'm not doubting Sheens is a good coach, i just think he was there for too long, him & the team were getting stale. It seemed as if it was just the same players who were Sheens favourites & the same gameplan every year. It will be good to see how they go under a new coach.

I reckon they are either going to go well next year or atleast build towards going well in 2014.

It's either going to be an excellent signing for the Tigers or it's going to be a bust, either way I can't see it being bad for them.

Still don't really rate the Tigers, never understood their hype. I'd rate their backline as one of the worst in the NRL and their forward pack is hardly any better but gotta be fair it is decent. Marshall is just as inconsistent as Mullen and god knows who he'll be playing alongside in the halves... Benji and Farah need to be at the top of their games to even get them in the 8 if they're lucky.

I agree and I think that signing Anasta was a pretty poor move. I get what Sheens was trying to do with the forwards and making changes but getting rid of a winger that had one of if not his best year to date baffled me. I know Ryan's never going to be the type that plays Origin but he was solid enough to stay on that wing.
I agree Heighinton has been a bit of a letdown since re-signing last time though. Blair is prob on par with Sandow as one of the worst signings this year considering who the Tigers let go to get him.
Ellis will be a huge loss but nothing they could have done about that sadly.

But if they can hold onto some of the promising juniors and Tedesco develops well you never know...

The Sydney Roosters are pleased to announce that up-and-coming second-rower Boyd Cordner has today agreed to an extended deal with the Roosters keeping him at the club until the end of 2016.

“I love being a part of the team here – the club has been amazing to me since I got here and I’m so happy here. I wanted to stay a Rooster, to keep growing and learning with this group of guys, as we build towards our potential,” added Cordner.
Roosters recruitment manager, Peter O’Sullivan, was also pleased to have Cordner locked into the Club’s plans long-term.
“Boyd has been part of our commitment to develop our young players over the past few years and to ensure that we have him here for a number of years is a major coup for our club and a major vote of confidence in where we are heading.
“Boyd is a tough competitor with true leadership potential for the way he conducts himself on the footy field and at training, and we see him as the cornerstone of our pack for the next decade.”
Still aged only 20, Cordner established himself as a regular first grader in 2012 and has played 29 first grade games to date after making his NRL debut with the club in 2011.
In 2012, Cordner also captained the NSW Blues Under 20s side to victory. He has been named in the Emerging Blues Squad and will attend a three-day camp in Sydney later this month.
