Who will Bennett axe, retain & recruit for 2013?

past achievements

I could have coached Brisbane to 5 premierships. Maybe not six.
Look at the 2006 Broncos GF team.

Justin Hodges
Darius Boyd
Brent Tate
David Stagg
Karmichael Hunt
Darren Lockyer (c)
Shane Perry
Shane Webcke
Shaun Berrigan
Petero Civoniceva
Sam Thaiday
Brad Thorn
Tonie Carroll
Corey Parker
Dane Carlaw
Ben Hannant
Casey McGuire

With the exception of McGuire/Stagg/Perry they were all international reps.

Could you have built that club from the ground up and developed those players to become internationals?

Coached all the origin victories, with lesser sides in many cases, especially 2001? Coached NZ to a World Cup victory in 2008? Got that St George Illawarra side to a premiership, a side that's struggled before and after his tenure? Taken Canberra 11th of 13 to a gf in 1987?

I can't believe people question his achievements, it's beyond belief.

I wonder if you look at international players and who they made their debuts under, how Bennett would rank? First by miles, I'd imagine. Hell, he even got Soward into NSW!

jamesgould;298096 Bennett took five years to get Brisbane into the finals for the first time said:
Brisbane made a playoff for fifth spot in their second season, and made the preliminary final in their third season.

I don't think anyone questions his ability, but there is simply no excuse for taking the team backwards this year (this "backwards to go forwards" thing is a load of crap). He has more at his disposal than Rick Stone did, and has produced less. Yes, I blame the players (as I did last year) for their ultimate performances, but when you can draw a clear comparison between last year and this year, Bennett must take some responsibility for the failure.

Surely we brought the most expensive coach in the game's history here to get the best out of players, not just to go and buy a bunch of expensive imports. Leave that to Manly...that's not what the Knights are about.

What are the Knights about? Finishing in the bottom half of the table, or at a push, 8th?

While Murray works his magic and brings the juniors through, I'm more than happy to have some quality imports, myself.

As for your other point, Bennett will be shouldering some of the blame for this season, I'm sure. But I keep coming back to the players ... the moratorium on re-signings has resulted in awful form by the team and a lack of effort since it was put in effect? It was a bad move for this season's results, but at least we have identified the players who have a lack of internal motivation and are playing for the wrong reasons. Would we rather re-sign them and be stuck with another bunch of Naiqamas, who only put in when his contract is up?

He's reputation does speak for itself but that doesn't make him immune to critism!

All it seems he's trying to do is buy his way out of trouble when he should be getting the best out of the cattle he's got which he most definetaly isn't!!

(Anyone could coach that team to a GF win) Probably true BUT only after he bought the players he wanted and then made them into superstars and taught them to play as a team. When he is finished getting rid of and buying the players he wants then he will do the same here.
It would be nice to see some local juniors get a run but if he does'nt think they are ready yet then i'm happy to bring in the imports he wants.
When he has the roster he thinks will do the job thats when the dynasty will start.
Im not crazy about this yr being pretty much done and dusted but as i said before you cant coach second grade players to a first grade grand final and Smith and Stone found that out too.

Backwards to move forwards my friend. Think bigger picture. Would you; a) want to finish 7th or 8th this year with Stone and ever year after that or b) take some short term pain with Bennett and set up a dynasty that competes for years to come similar to the Bronco's?

And are you saying that Bennett is incapable of motivating? It takes two you know. You should Google his achievements outside of league and see how many sports he's been associated with for the very purpose of motivation. You can lead a horse to water son but you can't make it drink!!

Do you like Polar Bears?

I'm saying that Bennett should be able to get the best out of what he's got and you can't tell me that's what we're seeing ATM!

Most people rated our squad highly before the season started an now all of a sudden they're a team of second graders. wtf!!

OUR team is playing with no desire and that's not on!

Plenty around here criticised Rick Stone because he didn't take last year's team to the Top 4!! Said he "struggled to motivate the team". Now they want to give Bennett a pass, and say it's all due to poor players. Mind you, I agree that some of these players aren't up to scratch, but it's the hypocricy in blaming the coach last year, and the players this year I can't cop.

As for writing this season off to "rebuilding", didn't we do that last year? Stone had his team being sold out from underneath him (at Bennett's call), players sent packing mid-year, told they weren't wanted, yet he still got the team to the finals. And was bagged for it by some of the commenters around here. Oh for such "failure" now!

Amazing.

We've been rebuilding every season since johns retired. While ever we keep accepting that line, the Knights will continue to use it. The problem with writing off this season is that there is a new top dog around who has a history of throwing his toys out of the cot if things aren't going his way. Maybe the players are just too stressed about theirs and the clubs future and when you try too hard, you always look worse.
Time for a good old fashioned bonding trip to Coffs Harbour to bring the boys together and go back to relaxing and playing football.

Who on earth would have criticised Stone for not getting us to the top four last season? He did a great job of holding us together while the team disintegrated. And eighth place was a top achievement - probably the most you could hope for all things considered.

2010 was more when he copped it, from me and others, for not getting the team up and generally not getting the results. He as much as admitted it was a learning curve himself when he said that being head coach was harder than he thought it would be at the conclusion of that season, and he tried to get them a lot fitter (however many %!) in the 2011 pre-season.

The difference between him and Bennett was he couldn't attract any better players to the club, and he didn't have the track record of getting results. Don't tell me you seriously want Stone back and to be in the situation we were in leading up to 2010, before Tinkler came on board?

We have been rebuilding all that time, and it's mainly down to the coach turnover.

Every first year with a new coach, we've struggled - Smith in 2007, Stone in 2010 and probably Bennett this year.

Only one of the coaches, Smith, got into the third year, and he was getting results until he announced his departure.

Bennett staying four years is key to changing it around ... it's nothing that hasn't happened before, yet it seems he is being cut less slack than everyone else (either that, or the members on here now are less patient than they were, particularly in 2007).

I don't think it's a case of less patience James I think the squad we have is much better than we had in 2007 and 2010 yet it's not helping!

You weren't cutting Bennent much slack when you heard he was offloading Taia so don't get all hypocritical on me please James!!

Then maybe the playing talent of the squad isn't a good measure of the turn around to success...

Maybe...just maybe...it's a subjective, personal matter for the club - one that requires a change in mentality and cognitive processing. That explanation seems just a tad more logical but then again...logic is a lost concept for many on this forum ;)

It's rugby league not rocket science. The players we have this year haven't forgot how to play they're just not putting their heart into it. Dropped balls, missed tackles and poor discipline shouldn't be a work in progress to turn around. We gave the Bulldogs a thumping and they're sitting in the top 3 then suddenly we have a dud roster ?

Who asked you? How about you let James respond for himself!

I see a pattern on here every time I disagree with James someone feels the need to jump in and stick up for him ffs
