Who will Bennett axe, retain & recruit for 2013?

We made the 8 last year with a lesser roster and coach. I'd be happy to be going as bad this year.

Out of interest; would you have Bennett fired immediately? Who would you appoint? What objectives would you give them? If it was up to you, right here and now, what would you do??

Tim - I agree the season has been written off some time back. Where do I send my 2 platinum tickets in the new Stand for a refund ? I respect everyone's opinion and agree with a lot of what gets said BUT Bennett's great History means nothing to me. What matters is NOW and I'm seeing diddly. I'll go with a clean out is necessary theory but what IF those signed don't deliver ? Will we write next season off and buy some more players ? Bennett inherited a top 8 side and has taken them to 15th that's the bottom line. Good teams and coaches don't make excuses they get the job done. What the players need to do is get the sand out of their collective vaginas and man up and Bennett needs to worry about a plan to beat the Tigers next week not who can he buy. Melbourne with no Slater, Cronk and Smith were well prepared by Bellamy for the contest against the Tigers let's see what our blokes with the greatest Coach in history can deliver.

Melbourne have the background, support structure and thorough levels of professionalism that is unrivaled (except Broncos maybe) in the whole NRL. It's not just Bellamy. Seriously; the Knights have been terrible in every department for years now, as a business and a footy team. And we were not a top 8 team, we were a 7th to 10th team at the very best. To turn an organization around in what is now 4 months is impossible. And if a bunch of 2nd rate players don't want to turn up for the coach then what can he do other than to show them the door. Bennett can not hypnotize them all to play. I'm gutted about this season but can appreciate the magnitude of the task at hand and will therefore look forward to when the Bennett has things in place which will work for him. Or we could fire him and finish 8th every year. That would be fun. It's easy to single out one person ( just like Rothfield does). No one on here unless you work at the club would fully understand the depths of disaster at our club right now. I like hamburgers.

Nice finish to the post, Aku'd!

Beaumont, personally I'd keep going to games if I was lucky enough to be able to like you, because when the good times get here it makes it more satisfying when you look back at the tough times like now.

I wouldn't have fired the bloke immediately I'd give him a chance to live up to his deserved reputation. There you go again making excuses. Rick Stone had all that against him last year and with a team of duds made the 8 and was a chance of making the 4. Let me ask you this. Did you think Bennett would improve the team ? I'm not talking about winning the comp in the first year I'm talking improvement be however slight it might be. I bagged Rick Stone last year, have apologized and I will again as this year's effort makes him look far better than I gave him credit for. Your comments are based on predictions that what Bennett wants will work. Much of the positive outlook for this year was based on same. I hope your right and I'll be one of the loudest cheering from the roof tops but I along with everyone else are entitled to be disappointed and not so confident.

As for what I would do that is impossible to answer without knowing what ticks inside the head and chest of each player. This is what I done on an infinitely smaller scale. In 1992 Mt Hutton decide to field a Junior team for the first time in 10 years. I applied for the Coaching position and was then giving the task of putting a team of U/18's together. I rounded up players(most of them rejects) from Windale, Shortland, Wallsend, Maitland, Lakes reserve bench, rugby union and soccer. We won the minor premiership. The night before the major semi 4 of my better players were arrested for posession of pot and unable to play. During the game my best forward broke his arm and was finished. We fronted up on Grand Final day under manned and playing the might of Lakes United. We blew them off the Cahill Oval. The Captain who couldn't even make the reserve bench for Lakes that year was named Under 18 of the year at the NJRL award night. I made it my business to get inside the head of everyone of them. They knew how to play footy they just needed to be prepared mentally.

James - I care for my elderly disabled Mother and have 3 brats ages 4,6 & 9 that are a handful for someone of my vintage. Going to a game requires a juggling act one which I would gladly undertake if the effort it takes was reciprocated by the team.

I expected improvement, but I didn't expect it to be overnight. I thought 6th to 8th spot before the year started.

It's not unknown for this to happen with quality coaches though ... these things do take time. Look at Hasler when he first took over at Manly, he was almost sacked. Bennett took five years to get Brisbane into the finals for the first time, but when he did they won two comps in a row.

Last year is pretty much irrelevant, because it's a different team with different aims and different structures etc.

Just gotta be patient, unfortunately. If we end up like Brisbane as Bennett mentions as his goal, then it will be worth it.

I expected a lot more from Bennett. Just like everyone else did. I never thought we would have to move backwards to go forwards but I also don't think Bennett thought that either. I will still have believe in his strategy and look forward to next year. Also I would not have Rick Stone coaching the team in the near future.

Great work with your coaching achievements. That was a nice story.

I have to go now ( urgent camel race to attend).

Up the f in Knights!!!!!

I just think the players ar'nt putting in for what ever reason :Snowden for instance not once this year have i seen him run flat out at the line he allways seems to be jogging and when he hits the line he slows down more and drops his shoulder to take the impact, he was'nt like that before he came here .
Im with Bennett here you can't coach second rate players to a first grade premiership get rid if them and buy the players he thinks can do the job , buy some big props not these 105 kg midgets we have now BUT get rid of Mullen first.

How many players do we have with representative experience ? They're not all 2nd rate players. They just aren't taking their skirts off before they run out.

Lets see
Boyd
Mcmannus
Tahu
Sau
Uate
Mullen
Costigan
Houston
Snowden
Mason
Buderus
Gidley (when fit)

There are no excuses, well there's a bucket load on here but there should be no excuses for how bad they are playing. I remember a season I had with the Mount Hutton under 18's and our team had no superstars.....oh hang on, thats not my story. Carry on

Last year we made the eight with a lesser team and a rookie coach.
This year We bought in a few super stars and Bennett and we've gone backwards.

It's not rocket science people. Bennett has failed to live up to his reputation and people can make all the excuses in the world for him but he hasn't shown me anything at the Knights that gives me any faith in his ability to get a team up to play.

I agree with Beaumont 100%

we had gidley last year to

You can't say that. Obviously he adds a fair bit but 2012 has been severely disappointing, no matter who we have or not have on board. 2013 is the year i'm waiting on, if we're crap next year aswell i'll start thinking other thoughts about Bennett.

Why should Bennett be allowed to just have this season written off and him not be accountable? That's Bulls**t!

We have the team to make the 8 without a doubt but we lack motivation..

Who's faults that? Bennett's!!

Backwards to move forwards my friend. Think bigger picture. Would you; a) want to finish 7th or 8th this year with Stone and ever year after that or b) take some short term pain with Bennett and set up a dynasty that competes for years to come similar to the Bronco's?

And are you saying that Bennett is incapable of motivating? It takes two you know. You should Google his achievements outside of league and see how many sports he's been associated with for the very purpose of motivation. You can lead a horse to water son but you can't make it drink!!

Do you like Polar Bears?

"Do you like Polar Bears"

Yes especially served with sliced fresh green beans and a satay sauce.

"And are you saying that Bennett is incapable of motivating?"

No he's not. He quite plainly says "we lack motivation" Big difference.

Actually I've thought whenever Gidley was on the field this year we definitely looked like a semi competitive top 8 side. Exception being Eels. It's been said before, he may not seem like he's doing anything, but hot damn do the players step up when he's around, this year anyway.

Yeah you're only a good backrower if you pass everytime you have the ball

Everytime? Well that wouldnt be a good Junior you can't pass the ball everytime. But when there is an occasion where there is an overlap it's generally an easy way to score a try if you pass the ball. Unfortunately Scott is wonderful at squandering overlaps and thus tries.

I thought Wayne had the reputation of getting the best out of his players? Lets have a look at who has improved since last year?

- Boyd
- Uate
- Neqaima
- Sau
- Mullen
- Costigan
- Houston
- Fa'aoso
- Cuthbertson
- Snowden
- Hilder
- Edwards
- Tuimavave

Oh wait...

Actually I'd put that one more at the feet of the players.

You can lead them to water, but you can't make them drink.

Given Bennett's past achievements and reputation as a motivator, especially. These players at club level don't have the same runs on the board.
