Who will Bennett axe, retain & recruit for 2013?

Theres HEAPS of quality props coming off contract in 2013. Tamou, Eastwood, Lillyman, Tolman, Weyman, Pritchard, Kite, B White, Rose, Matulino, M Scott, Hunt, Galloway, Asotasi, Bailey, S Burgess just to name a few lol there's also a stack of star backrowers, centres and halves off contract so hopefully we can get some guys breaking their contract early because theres not much left this year

The players in bolds club are trying/thinking about releasing them early to make room in their caps...

After watching the Cowboys v Tigers highlights, i'm wondering when Tamou comes off-contract lol. He's been great this year. I didn't even rate him a year ago, must have been the lack of exposure up in NQLD.

Just what we need, another pea-hearted sell-out.

Hate to say it but I'd say Roberts n Stigs days playing for Newcastle r numbered. There not good enough for our FG when where fully fit + we have already extended the contracts of four of our younger halves, (NYC Mann n Rouse who r 19, + Will Smith n Tyler Sullivan who r 20) on top of that we have Albert Kelly n Travis Davis in NSW cup who wouldn't be on anything compared to Roberts n Stig, I'd say they'll leave to England or go to another Nrl Side.

stig is very injury prone.
Actually, his eye injury could be a blessing in disguise because he has never really had his groin, knees and ankles injury free since he was 18, so a long lay off where he can just work on strengthening those areas while they are not injured could be just what he needs.

If we are to make a difference for next season it's time to bite the bullet and put both Gids and Bedsy onto the coaching staff and spend the salary cap on a few props and an established hooker.

No way Bedsy has another season left. Gids might have if he was playing FB.

Roberts just resigned for another 2 years a couple of weeks ago ,don't forget Roberts is an NYC player learning his trade.
It gets to me a bit when people on here say he is not good enough for first grade give him a chance what nyc halfback is good enough for 1st grade. Thats why they come thru the system to learn and thats what he's doing .
The rest of this year in 1st grade under Bennett he will learn heaps and be ready to keep that spot next year and he's not playing any worse than Mullen who's had a long time in the top grade and has'nt shown too much in my opinion.

You just nailed our biggest problem, excuses. We demand mediocrity. Mullen has been the next big thing forever and has failed to deliver but for some reason we keep expecting that this will be his year. Roberts is young and "learning his trade" but so is Kieran Foran, Daley Cherry Evans, Adam Reynolds and Shaun johnson.
Until we demand quality and stop making excuses, we are going to be an 8th spot knocked out in the first round of the finals team at the very best

The trouble is we really don't have the quality to demand excellence. We did at the start with Gids and Mullen, but with Gids out and Mullen returning back to his shell it's all fallen apart. Is Roberts up to the standard we want? Not really. But there is really nobody else. Good halves don't fall out of thin air, and the only ones we have are young ones with potential.

You're exactly right about us doing the best we can with what we've got. Its not that Mullen and Roberts are bad players but as a whole team and even town, we need to stop the excuses and not be happy to settle for a good loss. The players need more self belief that we can match it with other sides. 80% of the game is won between the ears and I don't think our players are in a good space at the moment.
I even said after the cowboys game that although we lost by 20, we played a good game, no more, that attitude is for teams that aren't going to ever win a premiership. When you take the field in any sport believing you are the 2nd best team out there, you will be.

Lets also remember that Tyrone is playing behind a forward pack that is getting beaten every week. He went well behind a good pack in NYC last year that was making metres but our current pack don't do that at the moment. I am all for giving our young guys a proper go, not in and out all year. Stick with Tyrone and he'll come good.

Yeah that team is great, but you would sacrifice every local junior in the team for imports?? Not me, I want the Knights to go back to being the team that has people in it that you might actually have a chance of knowing someone who knows him. I thought Bennett was supposed to be the great white hope who was instructed by Tinkler to stop the flow of our best local juniors being lured down the F3? He doesn't even attend any NSW Cup training sessions so how can he develop them? The odd lucky ones are still getting some help if they don't work and can train fulltime but if you can't do that then Wayne don't want to know you. Most of the young guys from last year have their managers trying to get them signed up somewhere next year because Bennett doesn't seem keen to keep them.Shame.

Wayne has re-signed Tyrone Roberts, Adrian Davis, Tyler Sullivan & Will Smith, signed Robbie Rochow, Alex McKinnon & formerly Mark Wade & he would have also been involved in the re-signings of Peter Mata'utia & Ryan Stig & also the imported Zane Tetevano & Marvin Filipo who are our juniors because we gave them their chance aswell as bringing along old juniors in Timana Tahu, Kade Snowden & Danny Buderus. So I don't see this theory that he isn't living up to his promise. Just because every one of our juniors aren't in first-grade doesn't mean Wayne doesn't have a plan for any of them.

Plus, it's only halfway through the year. Expect some more juniors to re-sign &/or get their chance in the second half of the year.

Plus in NYC the defense can be outright disgraceful from some of the scorelines I see. Whereas in the NRL there has been a huge huge focus on it since Bennett went to the Dragons and Melbourne Storm started wrestling techniques about the same time.
