Tyson Gamble

I really would like Joey Johns doing a couple of hour sessions each week with plays and kicking with our halves. Really noticed this year the timing was out with kicking, not making it through the line with grubbers, or giving twenty metre starts with too much put on the ball.

I like the signing of Tyson, he could play a bit of lock, allowing us to release man and free up some cash

I thought this is what he did?

What happens if Gamble Kills it at training, in the 6 jumper. Do we still move Ponga or maybe train Gamble at F/b and see how he goes there.
Im not saying play him there, just see how he goes at training.
By most accounts he is a fairly talented player , he likes to defend and at 6'2" and 95kg he's a good size... You never know he could save us some money either way, at 6 or 1 MAYBE.

If we can’t sign a decent fullback before the season starts, then we will have to look at other options. Training Gamble at fullback seems worth a try.

Dear me, I hope not.

There's a reason players to get to 26 or 27 years old bouncing around a few clubs with no position locked down and 20 odd first grade games to their name.
Hint: it's because they're not very good.

I don’t think Gamble is a fullback. Too slow. The jersey I see him snatching is Kurt’s #14.
Yeah well Simi has just had shoulder surgery and he’d be my first choice at 14. So now he won’t be able to start the season Mann and Gamble should be battling for it.

Says on the knights site Gamble is 189cm 95kg. That's big enough for lock right? He's tall. Maybe be could put on a few KGS to bulk up a bit of lock.

Personally I’m starting to think clubs have gone a bit too far along the path of trying to turn every not-quite-good-enough half, hooker or centre into a ball playing lock, especially given how effective guys who are more natural forwards eg Croker and Johns have been in the role this year. I don’t think he should bulk up. You can always just chuck a half in there for a stint once the sting is out of the game eg Benji at Souths in 2021.

I look at someone like Victor Radley, who I think is right on the border of being a net negative now as a player - the ball playing is mediocre and predictable because he doesn’t run with any impact, he can only be an “enforcer” if he cannonballs in dangerously or does a cheap shot, and he looks to be really struggling physically due to writing cheques his body can’t cash over his career so far - and think, gee, I’m honestly not sure I’d prefer to have him at 13 over Josh King right now.

I really hope the penny has dropped now that your starting 13 should be a forward first and a supplementary spine player 2nd, and AOB never picks Mann or Gamble there to start if Elliott, Croker or Johns are available.

So are you still having Gamble in your best 17? And where, a roaming role? I think you would be interchanging him with Elliot, Johns, and Croker.
