Gotta split the difference. The “recipe” is classy spine players, at least one and hopefully two among the best in their position in the game, playing behind an elite middle (either because of strength in aggregate or due to having an all timer like Payne Haas), with a good mix of workhorses and a couple of strike/“impact” players in other positions. Four guns in the spine + questionable middles is flawed, as is the best pack in the comp but a spine that just isn’t good enough.
It’s very hard to balance, if it wasn’t Penrith wouldn’t have dominated as much as they did. They cracked the code more than anyone else has. I would argue their next most important players after Cleary to the fourpeat were, in order, Yeo, Fisher-Harris, Edwards and To’o.

Not something I’d say we do for everyone.
Local junior, come through pathways into Harold Matthew’s in 2014. 88 NRL games over the last 6 years. Playing for this club for 12 years has probably largely contributed to his injury and surgery on the advice and best interests of the club.
Just saying we should give him a chance to rehab and get himself back to a reasonable level. Local, NRL experience, could help a few of the younger guys. If he shows some determination to get back to a high level, he may be a cheap option to call upon if required.
Anyway. Hopefully he can get it sorted and get back on the field sooner than later and get himself a deal for 2027 somewhere.
***it’s a bit different, but Volkman after he’d been at Warriors for a year, was released from his contract so he could go play for the Dragons. Dragons did a medical and deemed he should get surgery, so they pulled out of their contract. So he had no club. Warriors helped him out with his surgery and allowed him to rehabilitate with the club. Warriors CEO “it was the right thing to do”.
Ridiculously good deal for him if that’s what he got from Parra or the Broncos

Issac Moses had 8 clients at the Knights at one stage. His only client now is Dylan Lucas. Toohey lists most of the agents we deal with and who is with them - the Orr brothers have the most.
Harrison Graham came on a 1 year development contract. Toohey doesn't say if he's been upgraded, but says he'll get a lot of games.
Kingston Seve had a poor debut in Ball and may have picked up a facial fracture.

Disagree with Seve having a poor game. He had some really good moments but also over played his hand at time. Most times he had the ball he would break first two tackles and get off loads away. He made a great break and ran 60m and went for gold instead of passing to inside man which would have been a try. Got pulled down 5m out. His head knock came from a massive hit. Depending on whether the 10-day cooling off period is enforced it could be two weeks before it’s officially announced. No chance of an early release this year, even if the Warriors agreed to it the Knights would have to let go of someone on big money to squeeze him in.
Mitch Barnett was willing to take $200k less per year to come back to the Knights. Direct quote from Barnett “we wanted to come back here and I was willing to take big unders but I never even got an offer.”
Scott Dureau has apparently been dealt with some more bad news medically but Toohey doesn’t divulge what that is.
Says Sandon Smith would’ve been uncomfortable in the video session after his defensive performance against the Warriors.

Yeah either we were too deep in negotiations with Marata to back out without it kind of being a dog act on our part, or POS is really, really spooked about Barnett's age and injury history. Or I guess it could just be that the Wahs would insist on the player trade?
Marata is a good player, but Barnett would have a case as a top ten forward in the game at the minute. There's no way the reasoning here is that Marata is better.
