Toohey's News

Well it’s Lucus and KP last year 27. So you think the ideal time is end is season this year to negotiate with both of them. This is where I feel we will lose KP. They will obviously be upgrading Sharpe with a big extension the year after. If the Salary cap does not change I can’t see us being able to afford all these guys with Browns massive deal.

I’ve just done some research. The cap is supposed to increase from $11 to $11.7M in 2027.

New broadcast deal ends end of 27. Currently 2 Billion. New deal could double that which another cap increase could happen in 28. That’s when Sharpe contract is due.

POS must have thought about this when he did the Brown deal. In a perfect world the priority is keeping KP, Lucus, and Sharpe. Depends how KP goes this year. He may want more his next deal.

If we are serious about a Premiership push we need KP in the side. In order I would have
Sharpe, KP, then Lucus.

Angus Crighton is currently on $800K. So Lucus is worth at least that much next year.

Often touted as the primary suitors for KP, the Roosters have a stack of talented kids, and some of those will need upgrades if their premiership window is as wide open as many pundits seem to believe it is, especially if they have a big year in 2026. Trump has effectively started another forever war and likely killed R360 in the process, so maybe the Knights still have a chance of keeping KP beyond 27.

Of course, there's still the Bears, PNG and a potential 2nd NZ franchise who would all be after a marquee player like KP.

Well Crichton is a 3x premiership winner, World Cup winner, origin winner, I believe he was also a dally m second rower of the year.

So I don’t believe you can actually compare those two, Lucas has the potential to be top 5 second rowers in the world and a international, also being arguably the best second rower in the club.

Everyone knows that the more awards the higher wage you can command, same as rep honours.

I’d put him at $700k with a option if he gets picked for rep to go to $800k.

Lucas is a must keep

Yes I’m comparing Lucus will be as good as Crighton this year and onwards. If we get him for 700K that is a steal. “At least” 800K maybe a bit much but really 750 to 800K is what it will cost to keep him.

I’ll caveat this by saying none of them are ready for 3-5 years, but one position we seem to be well stocked with talent in juniors in is our back rowers.
I agree 100% that we should resign Lucas, but he may have some competition for his next deal.

Kalyn ain’t playing under that clown Mal

Tedesco still playing like a Dally M winner so far against the Warriors, keeping him over Su’alili was proven to be the correct decision. Teddy could go around again

Yeah, I think the biggest threat will be PNG offering him $1.5m-2m tax-free.

But got a bit of hope out of Vegas though with the clear chemistry between Brown & Ponga, and some talented players coming through, that it might be enough to keep KP "home"....maybe.

Say whatever you want about Moses but there's a reason he's still one of the most popular player agents: he's good at it. Letting your client sign a new deal when he's a realistic chance of making his Origin debut in a few months would not be the work of a good agent. Confident something will be worked out well before November.
Say what you want about his skill as a negotiator / player agent - he doesn't act in good faith with either his clients or the counterparty. And there is a very thin line between appearing to act in your clients best interests and sincerely doing so.

The guy is toxic.

The only two scenarios I see where Kalyn leaves is for R360 (which seems more far away than ever) or The Warriors. The other one is if he wants more money, cos he won’t be getting it. Not with Sharpey about to become the most sought after player in the game if it is allowed to get that far. I think he will be upgraded significantly sooner rather than later myself. Sully is very smart. He has future proofed us and bought us enough time to enter in to negotiations before other clubs get look in.

11/3

Knights will lose up to 3700 seats till the end of October because of work on the AJ stand roof - reducing capacity to 26k.

Brodie Jones needs surgery on a very painfull foot injury and could be out for 3 months

We don't have the money to sign Barnett

Sharpe is running freely but training on his own

Manuleleua may debut, but Graham may jump over him if Crossland needs a rest - Manu should debut soon if he misses out

Jones is having a small bone removed from his foot. No timeframe was given for when he would be able to play again.

I don’t think he will play much if at all this season and he is off contract this year.

Any clarification on “small bone”? Are we talking about an accessory/sesamoid bone (not one that everyone has) that’s causing problems. Or a tarsal bone that everyone has and in some way shape or form contributes to the biomechanics? Vastly changes his prognosis. I’d say a sesamoid bone is a pretty quick return, the latter would be similar to a Lis Franc recovery process.

Terrible timing.

Hope we at least throw a train and trial contract at him if he can’t get picked up. Or at least allow him to rehab and get back to a decent level using our facilities.

I know this kind of sentiment is frowned upon by some, but I think developing a reputation as a club that looks after its players is worth it in the long run.

Barry suggests that signing the likes of Saulo, Hola & Crouch to "multi-year deals" is why there's now not the cap space for Barnett.

But pretty soon after those signings, POS was offering Jesse Colquhoun a long term contract for I would almost guarantee a salary of above $600K. POS was talking to him after he'd just graduated to being Cronulla's starting lock and I thought after Fonua-Blake he was clearly their best middle in the finals, sensational defender who controls the ruck really well. Breakthrough season where he starts being talked about for the Blues is just around the corner.

Barry's doing his job in the sense that he's being diplomatic, but I think it's pretty simple, we're not in for Barney because our recruitment manager thinks it would be a bad signing.

"Jones will have a sesamoid bone removed in a bid to relieve chronic inflammation from arthritis that has plagued him on and off since before Christmas."

Totally get that with his age and injury history, too.

Sesamoid bone.
To be honest, it was a long explanation about how much pain he's been in and the different things they thought it was. None of it sounded convincing that they actually know what the problem is. He does say he wants to get on the field to at least have a chance to earn a contract.
