Toohey's News

The interested clubs, us included, Might want to wait and see if the knee holds up. Be great to have him back but if it is on rep dollars, then we move on. Too much emerging talent to keep hold of.

Asking Greg to take a pay cut with a new team entering the comp might be a tough ask unless he really doesn’t want to got to Perth. Wonder how much they’re actually paying him?

Lucas might be waiting to see if he gets picked for Origin in which case his asking price is would most likely surge.

POS didn’t have an issue signing aging front rowers at the Fins so I wonder what the reluctance is with Barnett?
Feel like with Lucas as well there must be a part of it where he wants a bit more time to see the direction of the club under a new coach. He's 25, headed into his prime, and seems to be a fiercely competitive bloke (in all the right ways). Would be someone who wants to be at a club doing the right things and headed in the right direction.

If that were me, I'd want to be taking more than just a preseason to make sure that description fits Holbrook's Newcastle - before signing a multi-year contract.

Thought he might be waiting til after Origin, and rightly so. Would dramatically affect his contract value if he got picked.

Lucas is a Knights junior right? You’d hope he would be willing to take slightly less to stay at the Knights. Same attitude as Bradman when he resigned. I really hope the salary cap increases so we can keep all the good players.

Played ball and Matt’s for Illawarra before coming up to play flegg.
He looks happy, the boys seem like a tight bunch. Seems like the kinda bloke to sign on when the time and money are agreeable. I’m not too worried

He was a knights fan as a kid and really wanted to play here. He won't be the issue, it will be his manager. He can't just do a straight forward negotiation for his client.

The Warriors CEO was a guest in Shaun Johnsons show league lounge. Said they are willing to play the long game for a replacement / trade for barney. Adamant that they will get a player in the deal eventually...

Very mature take, allow me to present my counterpoint: Dylan Lucas is my favouritest footy player ever and I’m going to stamp my feet and hold my breath until the club gives him whatever he wants.

I mean fair, but it's not like we're talking about Luke Lewis here.

Lucas is a very good player. Very important to our team. And he deserves to be paid fairly. But, he's also a junior, a clubman and a potential future captain and we're undoubtedly building towards general success. His manager doesnt give a flying **** about any of that. But Lucas does.

It's up to the player if they want to be that soulless dollar chaser for an extra 10% on their salary (half of which is taxed anyway).

Moses manipulates his clients into doing soulless things because he makes more money doing so. There's nothing wrong with testing the market, or waiting at least until you can manage representative selection during the year, before accepting an offer from the club. But Moses is very consistent in demonstrating that he doesnt act in good faith, he also manipulates his clients into perceiving the club cynically.

Hopefully, there is a junior club discount. Still, you'd have to worry about the confidence level of any up-and-coming Origin hopeful who didn't explore their value in the market.

Also, not that it ever happens *cough* Gus *cough* but the Knights would be constantly white-anted by other clubs if we underpaid/undervalued Lucas (which I'm sure they won't).

Realistically what do people believe Lucas is worth right now? Not based on potential but right now? I’d say $680-$700k
Honestly I don't know the value in 2nd rowers these days.

I'd put him in the 2nd tier of players, not elite level but clearly can be.

Vs Thompson on 7-850k (varying source) id easily put him in that price range but I believe props are more expensive in general.

Let me put it this way. We have a bunch of players we need to re-sign over the next few years, to hopefully lead the club into the 2030's. Leaving aside the one player whose deal is so long we'd never need to re-sign him, if you asked me "in what order should we prioritise those players", I would very strongly consider putting Dylan Lucas #1 with a bullet on that list. It would be between him and Fletcher Sharpe, and it's pretty much non-negotiable that we keep both.

Don't know what the dollar value for that is but probably quite high.

Are we in the 70s again, footy players have a window of 10 years if they are lucky to earn decent coin.

I like my job, love my company been here since I was 23 and am approaching my 20 year anniversary, if a competitor swoops in and offers to increase my pay by 20%, I would leave in a second and 3 months later my team mates wouldn't even remember who I am.

Same deal with League, hope we keep him and the deals right but if he leaves I certainly won't consider him to be soulless.

Say whatever you want about Moses but there's a reason he's still one of the most popular player agents: he's good at it. Letting your client sign a new deal when he's a realistic chance of making his Origin debut in a few months would not be the work of a good agent. Confident something will be worked out well before November.

Is this Lucas's last year contracted or do we currently have him for '27?

I agree that he is top 2 to be resigned. I dont care who comes through, he is gonna be our modern day Steve Simpson.

Give him 10 years (joking, but also not joking)
