Toohey's News

I’d have punted AOB and tried to bring Flanno in. I know the Dragons have had some bad games, but I bet they’re successful before we are.
The only downside with that would be his son would take up one of the elite half positions. But even carrying him, Dragons will beat us to good times I believe
Disagree. Their best players are aging/don’t want to be there. They’ve overachieved this year but I can’t see any long term success in their squad.

Not sure how much control he has on the roster but his coaching ability of the cattle he has got is about on par
Backs yes. Forwards no.

In many aspects AOB has done a pretty good job and it's not reasonable to take that away from him.

However, I'm not a professional sports administrator. Neither do I have access to the day to day workings of the club. So I'd have almost no idea how to actually improve the clubs fortunes. But I make the following observations:

* The club is a well funded and professional organisation with high end infrustrure
* The club has one of the best junior programs in the country
* AOB has very good coaching staff. The club is very committed to quality support staff.
* We've got the best player in the world in our spine.
* We've got/had 4 or 5 Origin stars in our squad for many years.

Despite these facts, AOB has no discernible plan to improve the on field performance beyond what appears to be its ceiling - getting fed by pretty much any team in the 1st or 2nd week of the finals. So how else do we improve if not replacing AOB with someone who's been there and done that?

Cleary definitely deserves title of best player in the world. Has been dominating for years. Even with Ponga, our spine is probably bottom tier.

I just think if we actually had a 5/8 that is a running threat and can hold his own in defence we would be a totally different team. It would be great if one of our juniors turned out like Ethan strange he is the kind of 5/8 we need

I feel sorry for AOB, let's face it nobody is going to win the comp with poor halves.

We desperately need a classy halfback, until we find one we will just keep making up the numbers.
Hastings prior to the Carrigan tackle fitted that mould. If he can get to full fitness again we’d be ok. A liability like Cogger at 6/7 is more of a concern.

Pryce hasn't showed he is able to hold his own in defence would love for him to turn out because he would be perfect
The difference I’m seeing between him and Cogger is creativity in attack. Yeah they are both speed bumps in defence but he’s far more likely to do a chip kick for a winger, a sneaky grubber behind a napping fullback or something other then what they’ve been dishing up on the 5th or drop outs.

Alls I can think at this point is AOB is worried that he and Hastings just won’t gel on the field because they don’t like each other.

AOB thinks Cogger is the more complete player, which is true. The part AOB seems not to understand is that Cogger is very shlt.

There's no point being a more complete player if you're making basic errors off the ball and offering absolutely nothing with the ball. It's such an AOB approach to take to value a player like Cogger more than a young freakish talent like Pryce. If Ricky Stuart were the coach Pryce probably would've been selected ahead of Cogger from the outset of the season, simply because the potential for upside is so high, why would any coach not explore that? Much less persist with a 4 out of 10 lacklustre half like Cogger.

Cogger definitely needs to be dropped after the last game’s performance. On top of the lacklustre previous performances. The only “good” game I would say he played was the Saints game in the pissing rain.

I can understand the “hype” and pressure to play him at the start of the season. And that’s what’s ****ed us. But now it’s undeniable he is not going to get substantially better to what we need him to be.

So unfortunate Gamble got injured. We should be definitely extending his contract. Fingers crossed Pryce gets a run next week. Hopefully not playing cup is a good sign he’s going to play in FG team.

Need to find a way to have Pryce, sharpe and ponga on the field at once have a crack at the storm formula with the lack of good halves available in the comp
