Toohey's News

Yeah can’t argue with most of them. Johns I think could be higher, but then I remember his unforced knock ons vs Penrith I think. Same with Mann but then he had the shocker vs Parra. I feel like Best could be a bit higher, but he’s had a few defensive blunders.

So most add up to me.

Actually yeah I reckon it’s harsh on Braddy overall. Way more good than bad. I reckon he’s been better than Dom.

9 - Gagai
8.5 - Hastings, Frizell
8 - Marzhew
7.5 - Gamble, Best, Brailey
7 - Young, Miller, Fitz, D Saf (being lenient because I think there’s a notable difference pre-and post-shoulder injury)
6.5 - Leo, Crokes, Cant
6 - Crossland, Johns
5 - Mann, Hunt, Jones
4 - Ponga, Hetherington
3 - J Saf (getting suspended is one thing, coming back and not showing intent to make it up to your teammates is unacceptable IMO)
1 - Tuala (god he was bad in the one game he got)

So yeah no serious disagreement with Baz re: who’s been good or bad in a broad sense, just some small quibbles.

Can’t rate Lucas, Rivett and Elliott, but I think Cant had a decent enough run that you can put him on there.

Speculation that O'Brien will be under a lot of pressure if our form isn't much improved against the Titans.

Berrick Barnes has been at training this week, working with our goal kickers.

Best only went to Bali to visit a tattoo artist he trusts. players don't get Tatts during the season because you have to spend days resting afterwards, so he took the chance to get a tatt and not sweat or get it dirty.

The club expected Ethan Ferguson to sign with Souths but tried to keep him with a 3 year offer, despite saying he can be "hard work" off the field and at training. The club offered him to Cronulla as a swap for Miller and Cronulla rejected him.

Willie Peters (Hull coach) says he's had no talks with Fitz about moving to Hull and doesn't know if Fitz would want to go.

Zammit left 7 weeks ago and we are now advertising nationally for a replacement.

Best clearly hasn't done much research into tattoo artists. There are some excellent ones here in Aus. He clearly hasn't got much between the ears to be going and getting tattooed on a bye week. So much can go wrong.
Lol drawing all over yourself like a 5 year old when your 20 doesn’t show much brains to start with and his Tatts suck.

Talks about the rumors of releasing Best and dSaf - Sounds like Toohey doesn't know anything, but doesn't dismiss it having been a thing.
Says talks have started to re-sign Frizz, but he may have to take a 200k pay cut.
Says Gags should play SOO but there is a push to replace him with the Hammer.
Says Bailey Hodgson is keen to find a new NRL club for next year but has ESL offers.
We have no interest in Su'a from Saint George.
Gives stats for Marzhew - 195 run meters per game (4th in comp) - 7 tries from 7 games) - tops tackle breaks per game - 3rd for average post contact metres behind Haas and To'o - 4th for average line breaks. Toohey says O'Brien wouldn't swap him for any other winger right now.

Podcast this week is with Sione.
He says his wife is keen to return home and if he can't convince her to do one more year he might play for Maitland and work in the mines unless the Knights want him.
Says he's a Knights member and is up to date with Knights news.
Talks about the win over Penrith this year as being one of his highlights.
Says he is loving his footy now and thought he was OK with all that happened at the Knights, but in hindsight he was too young to do most of the things he did.
Says St Helens is the most professional club he's been at - so I suppose his only other club was less professional. He says a lot of stuff about how he is a better, more professional footballer now.

I Would take Sione back in a heart beat i have not been following him over there but i think he would really suit the way the game is played now.

One thing that Sione said in the interview that I wasn't aware of is that Marc Glanville coached him and Tevita Pangai all through the juniors from under 9s and was super harsh on them.
He tells the funny story of how he didn't want to play one game and got his mother to tell Glanville he was sick. Glanville drove to his house, walked right in the door and picked him up from the couch and took him to the game. I wonder how many years in gaol you'd get for that these days.

Sione looked awesome in the world cup challenge, was one of the best players on the field. I would think he would be an upgrade on Jones and Johns.

Combined a couple of different stories re: Sione. He said the plan before going to England was to play a couple of years there and then work in the mines and play for Maitland, but now he hopes to return to the NRL. Says the ultimate goal is to play for the Knights again before he retires but infers he’s open to playing elsewhere when he returns in the next year or 2.

Towards the end he says he knows he wouldn’t be high on the priority list for the Knights next year which you could maybe read between the lines as meaning he’s already asked the question, but either way he doesn’t seem to think there’s much, if any, chance of him coming straight back here.
