Toohey's News

- Was Uate signed under his watch?

I think his contract was extended and upgraded under Bennett.

I didn't have a problem with Uate, the issue was Bennett forced him to deviate from style of play that saw Aku play his best footy.

Aku was a damaging ball-runner and prolific try scorer, but really went off the rails under Bennett's coaching.

Uate is the last member of our 2006 Flegg minor premiers still playing, with Mullen, Walsh, Patterson and Jono Wright all calling it quits this year. He goes alright for an old guy. If he manages to play out his 3 years of Esl contract he should finish close to 300 games and 200 tries.

There is no Toohey’s News this week, just an article by Robert Dillon about the boot camp.

Toohey was a News Corp hack supporting the Mariners and I do not forgive lightly old mate.
Geez give it up mate some people here probably weren't even born during the Super League War lol

You won't find many bigger supporters or better servants to the game in the Newcastle and Hunter region than Baz

Toohey is one of the good ones. He and Steve Mascord are pretty much the only Rugby League journos worth feeding.

Mascord was showing signs of butthurt-tedness when the Roosters revealed the hidden injuries with Cronk after the GF on Nine

The media are scum.

Toohey is not a journalist - he is a sports reporter.
An example - when Tinkler was in charge, the Newcastle Herald reported on how dodgy Tinkler's efforts to raise money by claiming he'd build a privately funded 3rd coal loader in Newcastle were, and how the "Hunter Ports" company that was listed as the major sponser for the Knights was a $2 shelf company that Tinkler was trying to use to con people out of money with a pie in the sky plan to build his coal loader. Because the Herald was running that important news story, Tinkler stopped giving Knights news to the Herald and gave all "scoops" to Toohey - which seriously hurt the Heralds business.
In short, if anything bad were going on at the Knights, the last person to tell us will be Toohey, but the club trusts him to release all the good news and do "harm minimisation" if there is unavoidable bad news.
For all the good news - Toohey is the man.
If there is something serious happening - ignore Toohey - he'll only give you the "party line", or what the club wants you to hear.

He's a journalist who is respected and since Newcastle is a one club town respect goes a long way, unlike the culture of Sydney media. When Brown had a crack at Robert Dillon I'm sure his heart sank. It's not like he can move onto the Rabbits or Dogs like Buzz.

Dillon is an idiot. Negative as. His book about the Knights had so many errors in it too. Whoever got paid to edit it should be shot.

Lucky we have you Billy to give us all the bad news

- Knights dont need to sack Moga to continue their tough stance. Could be 90k (25%) fine + suspension
- some of the stories eg Pearce playing up are complete BS with mo players being investigated by Integrity unit
- having a dig at media for writing about the Brown contract situation for the 100000 time as well as the Ponga all blacks comment
- Knights to sit down at seasons end to talk with Ponga about extending his contract
- Brandon Russell one to watch
