Toohey's News

I would of loved to of seen Browns face as he realised what a sh*t show he had just walked into.

The fact Bennett doesn’t get criticised as much as he should for leaving it in that state is criminal.

I am sure we all knew the mess Mr Tinkler and Mr Bennett left us in and the NRL looking for the millions we owed impacted heavily on the cap resulting in three wooden spoons.

It was discussed many times here.

I think Brown took on a bigger basket case than any of us even knew about . After reading that im even more impressed with what Brown has done here.

Definitely. I don’t even think he knew the full extent of it either until he got his hands on the books.

Yet some on here still like to criticise him for the amount of players he has gone through.

Bit hard to sign quality when the books were in that sort of state with average players.

Geez Bennett cops it on here but there is little talk of Rick Stone. I dare say that the salary cap mess was a result of stone as opposed to Bennett.

Some of the deals would have been his & Hagan's fault but he was only back in charge for not even a full season. His regime wouldn't have changed the situation too much from what it was already.

Not to mention the comments that is not hard to come in and sack everybody.

He really didn't have any choice. And couldn't replace them either.

I don't think anyone could argue the fact that Brown and Mooney(while he was there) have done an outstanding job in getting the salary cap and roster to where it is today. My only ? has been with regards to Brown's coaching and he'll get no better opportunity come next season to prove doubters like me wrong. This is 1 occasion where I'll be happy to be wrong if that be the case.

At least he has signed players who have been coached by excellent coaches who can lead by example and show other players (and brown for that matter) how to train and the tactics, etc that work. Roosters, storm, Broncos players.

Bennett, Tinkler, Stone and Hagan are all equally to blame. It’s just more fun to put it all on Wayne.

Ffs Beau Scott, Jeremy Smith, Boyd and Gower Ruined us loud and hard. Not to mention slagging us when he Left and made us poison with his comments for recruitment. Stone trashed place, Bennett grabbed petrol set us on fire and left us a smoldering ruin.

Signing out again.

I dont think Jeremy Smith can be counted with those others. He stuck around Newie after he retired and is a proud 'old boy'.

Brown has shown he can take a team all the way when in the ESL. Might be a "lesser" competition, but you've still gotta work with what you've got.

Now he has the cattle needed to mount a challenge, we'll get to see him formulate strategies to dominate rather than just compete

Skraelings Forum shutdown v2.0 in effect people!

This is not a drill, I repeat this is not a drill.

I think it is underestimated at some of the godawful signings Bennett made during his time here that also contributed to the hamstrung salary cap

- Told Beau Henry to go the Knights on overs (at the time) and then sent him to another team while he was coaching the Dragons not even 6 months into his contract
- Signed a 30+ broken down Timana Tahu which was a terrible signing as history showed, only played because there was no one better and out of empathy when Bennett knew his time was up here
- Matched/topped the Dragons offer for Wes Naquiama (we would laugh at the idea of signing him/keeping him for anything other then NSW Cup depth)
- Let go of De Gois who was one of our best and a solid but not great hooker to bring back a 34 year old Buderus (love Bedsy and that he got to finish here on his own terms kinda but business wise a terrible decision)
- Signed Boyd which was probably our worst signing in our 30 year history when we already had the players wanted
- Let go of Zeb Taia who was a solid player and continued to kill it at ESL and back at the NRL
- Let go of Richie Fa'aoso who was killing it in a simple bench role, then at the Storm
- Signed butter fingers Clint Newton to play first grade lmao, a terrible decision and only got game time because of injuries and out of empathy (see Tahu above)
- Signed Willie Mason who was good for 6 months before getting paid and turning into the soft Willie we all know and love
- Let Kevin Naquiama go to the Tigers where he is still a contributor
- Was Uate signed under his watch?
- Kept playing Neville Costigan who was awful by the time he left
- Gave Tyrone Roberts decent coin for a guy not many were going to pay big money for
- Signed scrubs like Willie Mason's brother, Albert Kelly, Daine Laurie to the roster
- Bought in other useless players after the above like Anthony Quinn, Craig Gower, David Fa'alongo and Travis Waddell
- Korbin Sims, meh

- BJ Leulia, one and a half good years before being error prone, penalty prone (see Roosters and Raiders)
- Beau Scott, decent signing when he wasnt injured
- Gaigai, good signing for a cheap deal at the time and a player not many wanted.
- Patterson/Taufua/Kaufusi, ok those weren't big losses, Taufua was ok while he was here, Patterson wasn't worth what he was on, likewise with Kaufusi
- Cuthbertson was a good signing, slow start but picked it up well after when Bennett realised he wasnt a prop
- Signed Rochow and Mckinnon, decent signings
- Jeremy Smith, solid signing

"We left the club in good shape" yep

And let's not get started on his recruitment decisions at the Broncos, HAH
