Toohey's News

Easy money for him.
He probably doesn't even have to make calls these days.
Anyone who wants to drop information unofficially would ring him.
He probably types out a 300 or 400 word article in the time it takes me to read it.
Send it in. Get paid. Have breakfast.

Gamble takes a punt - says Gamble is holding off on re-signing and backs himself to earn a better deal as the season goes on.

Talks about Tuala being called "the chosen one" by the other players and quotes O'Brien as saying he had 1 error in the trials and is a player you don't have to worry about.

Says the club won't release Armstrong and is looking to sign another outside back for the 30th spot, because we are short of backs apparently.

The Herald has heaps of league today, including a big frontpage photo of Ponga and a page 2 interview with Ponga by Max McKinney. There are articles on Sheridan Gallagher, Ethan Strange, Danny Levi, crowd numbers, the USA games etc etc.

There is also an article saying 1 of the screens has been replaced with a 18.5 X 9 metre screen replacing an 8 X 4 screen and how new technology will make the new screen much clearer from up to 70 metres away. The other screen will be replaced in time for women's origin in May.

Backing you Gamble! Got get em lad!!

I have absolute faith in Tuala. His professionalism last yr or two whilst being back up has been impressive. Deserves his chance. People sleeping on his finishing ability.

Very surprised we'd hold onto Armstrong, but as they say "stronger together"

Just re-watched highlights of the finals game. I'm emotional! LETSSSS GOOOOOOOO!!!!!!1

Love Gamble and good on him for backing himself, really think he was a massive difference to our squad last year moreso than Hastings.

If we are looking for an outside back looks like Lomax isn't happy at the dragons and might be worth a crack but not on the money he is earning.

Another part of today's Toohey's news was Toohey talking to John Quayle about Leigh Maughan. Quayle was NRL CEO at the time and says Maughan drove him mad with constant phone calls to tell him why Newcastle was better than any other choice, and he says that Maughan cried and vowed that Newcastle wouldn't let them down when he told him Newcastle was in.

Good on Gamble to not only imply (in my head) that he will keep cogger out of his 6 jersey, but he will do it so emphatically that he will get an upgrade!
Also sign now so you are cheaper dude.

Interesting to hear we are after an outside back I thought we were well covered there
I think we are one short because I think the wing spot left by dom is still really not a certain for enari .I think we have a few fringe to solid nrl players to fill the spot but if there was potential to get a solid to star winger you would take it

Jenkins 7 NRL games
Maps 1 NRL game
Mocredreke 1 NRL game
Armstrong 0
Sharpe 0
McCarthy 0

There is room for an older 50 game NRL player because we wouldn't want to play more than 1 rookie at a time.
And an explosive tall winger. Just sayin.👀👀

I thought I was the only one here that doesn’t really rate Tuala. If we are talking fringe first graders he wouldn’t be an option except that nobody else has had enough time to put their hand up or for injuries. His side of the field is an open gate, not just on the weekend but 3 out of 5 games you just freak out when the ball goes his way.

I am an advocate for how Tuala is not worthy of 1st grade, have been for 4 years now, would do better in the UK or the tigers.

Says O'Brien can't keep Cogger, Gamble and Hastings in the 17 and the player under most pressure going into the Cowboys game is Hastings.

Says in the 8 years before Parr arrived we sacked 60 coaching and support staff and had to pay out the contracts of many of them. Says the 3 assistant coaches are all off contract and expected to be re-signed.

Says all top 30 players and coaching staff attended the funeral of Leigh Maughan.

Says Maps has minor ligament damage in his shoulder and will be out for 4 weeks and Riley Jones has had ankle surgery and will be out for 6 weeks.

Says Baxter Best is 15, living with his parents in Ipswich, signed for the Broncos for 3 years. Bradman says Baxter will be better than him and when asked if he could come to the Knights, says "we'll see what happens at the time".

How can Hastings be under pressure? I don’t get that. Off one game? Can’t agree on that one, but I’ve said my piece on that and just hi opinion too.

Having stability in coaching staff, especially Green would be huge for the next 4 years.

Hastings can't be fully fit after the off season he had, but the other two are.
Hastings should be fitter this week though, after a full game and 11 days to do extra training.
There is another article on Gamble in the Herald today (Robert Dillion article) that says he is giving himself 6 weeks to show what he is worth before he starts contract negotiations, so it would be hard to drop him.
Toohey doesn't say it's about fitness. He says that Cogger's main strength is straightening the attack, which helps Ponga do his thing and that was sadly lacking in round one, so Hastings and Gamble need to up their game to keep their spots.
