Waiting for the apologetic articles from Rothfield and Dillon, the two biggest hacks in the business.

What are the chances they will not write a single article about Tinkler meeting his commitments? 100%?
 
They will just patiently wait until some new (untrue) rumors about tinks surface and jump on that like the leaches that they are

Finally this is sorted and done with. Not that it bothered me because I always knew this would all be sorted with no issues, and I was right about that but it yet again proves everyone else who doubted wrong, including yours truly Buzz.
Not that they would admit it though.
 
I'll admit to giving it to Tinkler. How do we really know the impact all the BS had on the players between the ears ? Happy to be wrong. The fact that he sorted his Knight's affairs out before most others shows how much he thinks of the team. I hope we win the comp then we'll all buy the big man a beer or three.
 
According to this, the tax debt is still there?! I don't see how the audit could have been completed if it was ...

Newcastle Knights audit frees up millions for Nathan Tinkler

AN independent audit has found Nathan Tinkler met all his first-year financial obligations to the Newcastle Knights, but financial storm clouds still linger over the club.

The Newcastle Knights Members Club yesterday accepted and approved an independent audit into the Knights, completed last week, in a move effectively freeing up $9.7 million of the embattled entrepreneur's funds.

However, the Knights, the A-League's Newcastle Jets and the Hunter Sports Group - the Tinkler-controlled company that owns both - still face being wound up by the Australian Taxation Office over $2.7m in unpaid debts.

Before buying the Knights in 2011, at the request of the then owners, the Newcastle Knights Members Club, Tinkler placed $20m in trust to support the club in case he faced financial problems. That $20m deposit was to fall to $10.3m - meaning Tinkler has access to the remainder - this month if Hunter Sports Group had fulfilled a string of obligations to the Knights.

Those obligations included ensuring the club gained $10m worth of sponsorship in the 2012 season, that $2.5m be invested in junior development at the club and that the club's working capital needs be met.

The members board said independent auditor Crosbie Warren Sinclair had last week reported all those conditions had been met. "The members board have done their job by receiving the audit and now it is time for the Knights and everyone at the club to focus on the season ahead," said Knights chairman Paul Harragon.

Betting agency pursues Tinkler over alleged debt

Darwin-based online betting agency Luxbet has filed proceedings against mining magnate Nathan Tinkler, alleging he owes it more than $136,000.

Documents filed in the Northern Territory Supreme Court state that Luxbet has made numerous attempts to get Mr Tinkler to repay the money.

The owner of the Newcastle Knights rugby league team has 21 days to respond to the writ.

Last year the Australian Tax Office commenced legal action against Mr Tinkler's Hunter Sports Group, the Newcastle Knights and Newcastle Jets football team, claiming they owed $2.7 million in unpaid taxes.

Luxbet is owned by ASX 100 company Tabcorp Holdings.

Tabcorp Holdings operates TAB Sportsbet in NSW and Victoria.

Love a bet but sucked into the betting agency.

Should be internationally illegal for people even richy rich's to bet on credit.
 
I know stuff like Lotto you can't get on credit. I thought that would apply to gambling as well.
 
I love hearing all the media sources who lined up to bag him and take potshots at him when the windup was called for having to report that he's paid his two biggest debts. Seems they're not so eager to talk about it when it's good news for him.

ATO withdraws from some Nathan Tinkler matters


THE Australian Tax Office (ATO) has formally withdrawn from a number of proceedings against troubled businessman Nathan Tinkler's companies, after telling the Federal Court in Sydney debts have been paid.

The ATO has been pursuing several of Mr Tinkler's companies, including the Newcastle Jets and his building arm the Buildev Group, over unpaid debts.
In the Federal Court last week, Sharif Hammoud, representing the Deputy Commissioner of Taxation, said the Newcastle Jets and some of the Buildev companies had made payments to the ATO.
On Friday, Mr Hammoud withdrew two matters relating to the Buildev companies and another matter relating to BD Qld Project, an associate company of the Buildev Group.
In relation to the proceedings against Buildev Development Qld, Mr Hammoud said: ``The debt has been paid and the party is seeking to have the application dismissed with costs''.
District Registrar Michael Wall granted the application and ordered the development company to pay more than $4500 in costs.
In relation to the two other matters against Buildev Group and BD (Qld) Project, Mr Hammoud also sought to have the ATO withdraw from the proceedings, as the debt to the commissioner has been paid.
He said a supporting creditor, whose name was not mentioned in court, was seeking to be substituted in the matters.
Registrar Wall adjourned those two matters until May 17, when it is expected the court will also hear about the outcome of proceedings against Newcastle Jets, Buildev Aviation, Buildev Development NSW and Hunter Valley Sports Group.

The big guy has flogged his major asset, his 19% of Whitehaven coal, for 600mil.
So basically he now owns the Knights, the jets, a few hundred horses, a couple of properties, a few minor investments, and for the first time in years, he has a lump of cash to play with. He is probably the only one who knows how much cash, but it could be in the hundreds of millions, or as little as the price of a pie and a beer at the next Knights match - who knows?
 
Interesting times.

IMO his hand has been forced. I can't see why he would sell the last thing that was making him any money by choice.

Ahh well, always have the guarantees to fall back on.
 
$700m to the main creditors was a figure thrown around.

Edit. He told the supreme court "probably around $500m", so not less than that :lol:

Hedge fund Farallon, which has bought most of the Tinkler stake, says the sale is only a ‘‘partial’’ settlement of the Tinkler group debt, meaning it may be after the former billionaire for more money.
