Tinkler has spent $25,000,000 just so he can maybe earn respect from some people...
Guys its pretty obvious. The guy is a massive Knights fan, he is also a loyal hunter boy. He has done what anyone of us would do if we had fk loads of money..

Exactly and I am a member who supported Tinkler(never voted) but unless his financial position improves and he changes the way he does business in regards to the knights, I see no other way then for us to part company. The negative publicity Tinklers business practices are generating is extremely damaging to the knights especially considering there business is so reliant on sponsors.

You can't just be happy to take his millions and support and then want him punted the second you read reports he's in financial trouble that is yet to be proven or have even the slightest affect on the Knights and I highly doubt the sponsors will be wanting to go anywhere with the team we have and the position we're at as a club.

That's harsh. Supporting Tinkler and being a Knights fan aren't the same at all.
Nah I was mainly referring to if Tinkler was booted out and Burraston was to be considered for some sort of management position. I agree there's no way Burraston would work under Tinkler, but I also find it strange that if the Knights were owned by the members and bought back that they would be silent if Burraston was allowed to walk back in, or considered.

I'm happy for the Knights to take any money Tinks throws our way, but he isn't some sort of saint. In fact, he is a guy who has left a path of destruction through all the small business people silly enough to give him credit.

I totally don't accept the exaggerated judgement which claims that the bad publicity is fatal for the club. Really the only impact it has is financial, and with Tinkler at the helm, it is hardly an issue
Within our sporting community petty issues of when some people get payed isnt very relevant. Not to mention that is has been stated that the problem is temporary

That is if Tinkler remains with the club long term but if he goes bankrupt at any point then the club could be in a bad position with its ability to attract sponsors due to potential damage done by Tinklers business practices. Even currently the majority of our sponsors are Tinkler owned companies or business partners with many other companies staying away from the club due to Tinkler.

$25.000.000 isnt exactly a few dollars and it does'nt seem to have gained him much respect that i can see especially in the media so i don't think he has got much out of it at all ...Also i don't think he is the type of guy to worry about gaining people's respect through the $ and i dont think he spent that money to buy respect he spent it here because he loves the Knights ....GIVE THE GUY A BREAK ....

STAYING PUT: Embattled Newcastle Knights owner Nathan Tinkler.
IT was billed as the most important meeting in the history of the Newcastle Knights but Nathan Tinkler was last night given a vote of confidence by the members - with a condition.
While the cash-strapped mining magnate wasn't on hand for the showdown that some speculated would end his reign, super coach Wayne Bennett joined Hunter Sports Group boss Troy Palmer and Newcastle chief executive Matt Gidley to talk over concerns Tinkler's business worries were putting the NRL club in grave danger.
But after an hour-long meeting, Palmer emerged standing alongside member's board director Nick Dan declaring Tinkler was still in charge and what's more he was going nowhere.
"The meeting went really well as expected," Palmer said.
"There were a number of questions that the member's board wanted to ask and I think we answered them as good as we could and to their satisfaction.
"I think everyone agrees what a great job Nathan and the team has done and where the club has gone in a short period of time and I think the member's club are more than happy with that after asking their questions. It is business as usual and I think we are all on the same page."
But Dan conceded the member's board wanted more transparency.
"The member's board respect the fact that the members voted for Nathan Tinkler to buy the club last year, a huge majority to do that," he said.
"They are happy with the way he had funded the football operations. We want to see the club fully capitalised as was said at the changeover and to make sure the business creditors get paid on time for what they do and Troy has said they have certainly taken that on board and would take steps to make sure that happened.
"We are going to meet a lot more regularly. We gave them an insight into how we ran things over the years. We would have cash flow problems from time to time and we would tell the community the problems we were facing and I think because of the community's great love for the Knights they would give us a couple of months and we would get things paid when we said we would.
"We have suggested to them that is what worked for us and maybe they should try that for the community."
It all relates to the ongoing audit that was due by December 15 before the members agreed to a extension until January 21.
But that was before the Australian Taxation Office last week launched action to wind up the Knights, the Newcastle Jets and parent company HSG because of an outstanding $2.7 million debt.
Palmer received backing from the Knights' long-time auditors Crosbie Warren Sinclair yesterday and last night again guaranteed the taxation debt would be paid before the February deadline.
And he also took aim at the Knights' previous management and people with agendas he claimed were distributing wrong information to the detriment of the club.
"As Nick said I don't think the member's club ever wanted to take over the club," he said. "I think they are in principle very happy with how the privatisation has gone and how the club has improved."

We are not in a position to assume that any potential sponsors have decided against sponsoring us. We are not in a position to assume Tinklers business practices and or how they could potentially impact our ability to attract sponsors. All while assuming we even need 'external' sponsorship
Tinkler was never going to go bankrupt. The most informed speculation tends towards a ball part worth of 200-500m

I don't feel sorry for Tinkler going bad. I'm a punter, He's a punter and at the moment He's struggling. Just as a punter is always a chance of going broke they're also a chance of backing a few winners on the trot and getting on top again. Obviously being worth 400 or so million is far from being broke but its the 600 million debt is the worry. In saying that as a Knights supporter I appreciate what the big bloke has done for us and He should be made feel very much a part of any future success we have.

Personally i don't think the Patrons Trust was the way to go at all as it would not have even paid of the clubs debt and seeing as it was a loan all it would have done was put the club into the hands of some faceless people further down the track when they called it in .
Also because of Tinkler and only Tinkler we now have the Coach and the players to win the Comp and if we do or even get close watch the sponsors line up and throw they're money at us .
I too would like a little more transperancy but only with the Knights Finances because really Tinklers finances are nobodys buisness but his and if were honest Burraston was far from transperant with the Knights Finances and it was'nt his money.....

Kurt Gidley talks up Nathan Tinkler's influence on the Knights

Kurt Gidley (L) says the Knights are now a lot more comfortable with coach Wayne Bennett (R).
KURT Gidley is adamant embattled owner Nathan Tinkler has been a positive influence on the Knights, despite moves by the Australian Taxation Office to have the club wound up because of unpaid taxes.
As proud a Novocastrian as any player to have pulled on a Newcastle jersey, Gidley believes Tinkler has been instrumental in delivering the Knights from a precarious financial position to a potential NRL powerhouse.
"There is no doubt right now all the talk up here is about other things relating to the club because it is in the paper every day," Gidley told The Daily Telegraph.
"It is unfortunate because I love Newcastle and I love the Newcastle Knights. And I have seen the tough times up here. I have seen the changes from day one (when Tinkler took over) and Bedsy (Danny Buderus) has as well.
"People talk about the situation the club is in now. We are probably two guys who have played at the ground when it was the original ground, when it was all hill and just the old grandstand. And there wasn't much to say about the training facilities because we didn't have any.
"There has been some great changes and some really positive things that have happened at the club.
"We should be proud to look at where we have come from."
Gidley is confident coach Wayne Bennett has put together a team with the potential to challenge for the 2013 title.
The skipper only played five games last season before a shoulder injury ended his year and from the sidelines he was put through the added torture of watching his teammates fail to make the top eight in Bennett's first season in charge.
But with his return in 2013, along with the inclusion of Beau Scott, Jeremy Smith and David Fa'alogo, Gidley has no doubts the Knights have the experience and toughness to match any rival with a little luck and good health.
"The guys now understand and know Wayne a lot better than they did last year," he said. "That was one of the biggest things.
"With Wayne coming to town he brought a lot of expectation. He didn't want it but I suppose that is what happens when you have a record like he does, with all the grand finals he has won.
"But for the first six months guys were really shy and probably weren't themselves and that showed on the footy field.
"But I think in the back half of our year we played a lot better footy and that had a lot to do with everyone being a lot more comfortable with Wayne and just being themselves. Certainly from the day this time around after Wayne returned it has been a lot more comfortable."

I think it'd be nice now for the Tinkler articles to stop even though this isn't a traditional Tinkler bashing article, Crawley's Tinkler articles are more positive. It's been a nice, calm day with practically no mention of Tinkler's troubles on the forum or in the media.
