The pre-season thread - 2022

Read certain experts are saying this is the one to get and it will be way more beneficial than any booster, Should we do the old style chicken pox and measles party's Roops?
The studies aren't done yet for omicron, but all the studies on the earlier varients say that the immunity you get from the disease isn't as strong or lasting as the vaccine gives you - so a free vaccine looks like it will always be your best bet.
Vaccinated people are also getting a very mild case if they get it.

I suppose it might be a good thing if a mild form of the disease goes through Africa - which is still largely unvaccinated - before a stronger form takes off and kills millions.

Article saying we are going ahead with the Boot camp, but all the coaches who were at the emerging blues camp are out because Jonah Pezet tested positive to covid and all have to isolate for a week. Bedsy, O'Meley, Knowles and Johns are all out. All the players are good to go.

I was a bit dirty when they didn't pick Best for the emerging blues, despite picking 3 or 4 guys who have always been in his shadow - but I'm OK with it now.

Barry Toohey has just tweeted that a Knights player is in isolation after testing positive to COVID 19.

I hope COVID does not spoil our pre-season.

It could ruin careers. Player may feel fine with it and may feel completely recovered, but a 10% reduction in lung capacity could leave a player well behind where they were.

Chris Veaila tests positive.
He has been in isolation since Monday - meaning he would have been one of those isolating because of household contacts to the outbreak.
The other players continue to train.
No word on what that means for the Boot camp.

Toohey article that says the boot camp is off.
Vaeila and "a number of others" are in isolation till cleared.
"The bulk" of the squad would train this afternoon.

If they’re vaccinated they should just train as normal. Have players go through the health & safety protocols if they catch it but otherwise just carry on as normal. We have to just learn to live with this disease. It’s not going away.

Don't close contacts have to iso for 7 days anyway if jabbed. Still a week of not training etc. If it happens to several players at one time throughout the year it'll be going back to the old days of forfeiting the game.

If the players dont go in to a covid bubble, this is going to be a constant thing all year.

They are expecting the numbers of infections to increase quite a lot, maybe not the 20,000 per day that the news carries on with, but a lot. Going to be very hard for all players to avoid it. I think this season is going to be a tougher year then the lockdown years getting the premiership completed.

Interesting article about Crossland.
Says he hasn't been able to train fully for the last 2 pre seasons due to his groin injury, but is fully fit now and is training hard.
Says he wants to nail down the 7 jersey, but he also talks up Clifford and especially Clune, who he says is super fit, great with the ball in hand, and very experienced, and also says he is leaning on Clune at training.
Joey says he's impressed with Crossland and Crossland says he's being helped by Joey.
O'Brien is talking up Crossland and Young as the guys who are impressing in early training.

i think we need to learn to live with it i dont agree with double jabbed having to iso as that was the push to get people back to normal unless the conspiracies are true they been right with a lot of things vaccine passport were a big one at start of year you all said it wont happen

Whatever they decide to do with the covid stuff, they’re screwed and there will be a load of people telling them they’re doing the wrong thing. Don’t think you can have it running rampant in sides that are playing though, that would be a disaster for the NRL’s duty of care.

Would have previously agreed with this but if this new omicron really is 5 times more infectious idk what can be done. It seems we’ll all have caught it in the next 3 months. If everyone’s had booster + antibodies from the infection maybe we will just have to get rid of isolation.

Is it not just a coincidence that there is always a new type of covid leading up to busy social periods of the year. Restrictions to come in at some stage and controlling the masses comes back into affect.

Omicron = Moronic.

We might have to put up with sides withdrawing from matches in the upcoming season if that does become the case …
