The Official Super League Thread

I dont know why players go from the NRL to the Superleague.. such a step down!

i dont know why but TONY PULETUA played amazing hes even FASTER and STRONGER, i think coz they wanna play in a different atomsphere and they get paid more because they are superstars, but how funny does matt king look with his beard ?

Seems to me like King has gone Amish.

King has really gone down hill over there, every Wire game I've seen him he is always missing tackles, letting in tries, dropping balls etc.

Can you tell the difference between NZ and Aus accents, PK?

Mostly, yes. It's a subtle difference to my ears but it's there.

King's found it difficult to settle in at the Wire. I know that players coming over to the UK know that they're moving to a completely different way of life, away from family/friends, etc, but not being comfortable makes a difference on the pitch. I'd still give him time to settle in and regain his form but Superleague, like most sports leagues, is about instant results.

IMO, King is just a substandard rugby league player.

He only looked good around other great players.

Warrington played like kids tonight. A good first half turn out but capitulated to the Catalans Dragons in the 2nd half. Cats had a man in the sin bin and still scored two tries against an abject Wolves defence. Warr 20 - 40 Catalans.

Celtic Crusaders didn't disgrace themselves at home to Hull tonight. Celts 20 - 28 Hull. a crowd of 5,000+ too, which is great in RU country!!

What can I say, Catalans are just that good.

Just on the SL website..

Has it always been a top 8?

Cause I always thought it was top 6?

Used to be a top 6 until this season with the added teams.

top eights a new thing, the st.helens saints are so far ahead i think they,ll take the spoils,im a rhinos man but we jus dont seem to be able to click this year

Speaking of the top 8, I can't wait to see how the teams selecting their opposition goes!

There'll be hell to pay when a team selects a side to play and loses to them. Supporters of the team that loses will be going off!

Carney Joins Wolves

Brian will join the Warrington Wolves at the end of June, as his commitments to the Irish Rugby Union come to completion.

Brian has represented Great Britain 14 times between 2003-06 scoring 8 tries.

He started his foray in League for the Irish Students in 1998, catching the eye of several clubs. His professional Rugby League career started with Gateshead Thunder in 1999 and moved to Hull FC with the merger of the two sides in 2000. His form and raw talent impressed the Wigan side that gained his signature for the 2001 season.

A need to test himself in the Australian league with the NRL saw him play for Newcastle Knights in 2006, his form saw him become the leagues leading try scorer with 16 tries in 26 appearances.

Moving back to his original code he joined Munster Rugby Union club in 2007 and immediately joined the Ireland national squad to face Argentina as well as being a member of the World Cup Squad. On his debut he scored an interception try showing his pace on the International scene. Brian played 19 times for Munster scoring 5 tries and has been capped 4 times for his country at Rugby Union.

Wolves Head of Coaching and Rugby Tony Smith is looking forward to working with Brian, "I am really excited by the prospect of getting to work with Brian. He's a championship player and his experience and know how will be a real asset to the squad."

Brian is please to be joining the Wolves, "I'm really looking forward to a new challenge with Warrington Wolves and am equally looking forward to working with the squad and Tony Smith and hope that I can add something to their game. I'd also like to thank the players and everyone involved in Munster for their time and efforts, I enjoyed my time there."

It was excellent too see the Super League take RL to a different country in Europe for the first time. when Les Catalan vs. Warrington, drawing 18, 150 in Barcelona. Just hope Russia is in the planning for the future of the RFL to take a couple of matches their. Because in the future Russian RL will apply to join the Super League in the future!!!!!

It wouldn't hurt the NRL to take a couple of fixtures to other countries as well....!!!

He smashed Moimoi a number of times when the Kiwis toured GB in 2007. England definitely missed him in the World Cup, & he's still only 20.

that was a hell of a shot...but anyone can shoulder charge...still pretty fearless effort though...think he'd like wearing a predominantly blue jumper with a bit of red on it?

Results from week one of the Super League finals:

(1) Leeds beat (4) Hull KR 44-8
(2) St Helens beat (3) Huddersfield 15-2
(5) Wakefield lost to (8) Catalans 16-25
(6) Wigan beat (7) Castleford 18-12

Wigan v Castleford was a decent game, the others were a bit disappointing.

Next week its:

Hull KR v Wigan

With Leeds & St Helens advancing to week 3.
