The "Mark My Words" Thread

We upped our offer in the end I believe, Watson ended up leaving for less. Which strongly indicated to me that he lost faith in the Knights' chances of a premiership, which is fair enough. I remember it being a big topic of discussion at the time.

As for Ponga, sure it doesn't help, but I don't think it really affects him unless he were to go to the Roosters. Him and his family are settled here, they know the club inside and out. He's not leaving because he lost a mate. It'll be about money or like Watson, losing faith in the cause.

If only there was some sort of recorded discussion involving the two of them, in which these matters are covered and we might get an idea as to what occurred, and why Connor made the decision he did…

Such a thing must not exist, and that is why we have no choice but to engage in silly NRL 360 style speculation.

Look, at the end of the day, there’s plenty of players in the comp who are really close mates because they grew up together as young fellas or what have you, but they never actually play first grade for the same club. Just because you’re really tight with someone, doesn’t mean your personal career development goals and aptitudes are gonna line up. Mitch Pearce and Kieran Foran still managed to find the time to catch up.

I don't work with any of my mates, but we manage to catch up,
I thought this tread was for predictions?
So here are my outlandish claims.
Ponga has best year to date and gets dally M
Bradman best gets injured in first 4 weeks
Dom comes in and brains it
We just make the 8 and go 1 game better than last year 🙂

Knights to just miss top 8
Mann to be dropped to reserve grade by round 8
Barnett to make 13 his spot
Sasagi to be the new Mr Fixit in place of Mann
Obi and Ponga to leave at season end

It's all part of the prediction process brother. A year or two down the line, one side of the discussion is going to look silly. That's the fun of it.

I haven't heard or read that Ponga or his Dad have carried on about much at all it seems to me to be everyone else thats carrying on about everything not those two..
IMO if he want's to go (even though he has said multiple time's he doesn't) let him that would give us over a million a year for someone else ..
Offer Tommy Turbo $1.5 mill to come here ...

Yeah how many times have any of us even heard Andre Ponga speak? He might have agreed to one or two interviews about his son for channel 9 but that’s it.

People talk like the two of them are our versions of LaVar Ball and Connor McGregor. Which alternative universe are you living in? The only “carry on” I see with regards to the Pongas is other people whipping each other into a tizzy.

The media speculation about his contract is annoying and, yes, there’d be less of it if Kalyn agreed to a longer term deal (though you’re kidding yourself if you think it would all go away, the media speculates about players with years to run on their deals all the time). Doesn’t change the fact that it’s the media deciding off their own back to publish this stuff, and the reason they mostly only talk player speculation rather than how the actual game is played, is because the tabloid gossip stuff gets more clicks.

If WE just settled down about this crap, and demanded more intelligent coverage of the actual game via our clicks and eyeballs, so much of the rot about Kalyn which annoys so many so much would go away. It is absolutely not his fault that it exists and if he retired tomorrow, speculation about other players would fill the void. The reason so much of it is about him is because he’s so obviously talented and exciting to watch, and if you’re angry about that I don’t know why you even like rugby league in the first place.

True to an extent, but the way he structured the contract and the fact that his words around loving the Knights and not wanting to leave conflict with his actions of going into this season having not taken up the option for 2023 was always going to invite this type of fan and media interest.

Anyway, back on the topic.

I predict the biggest controversy of the season will be one team having their season completely and obviously derailed by COVID-enforced player absences. It feels like something which would happen to Parramatta, so I’m gonna predict it will be them.
