The "Mark My Words" Thread

- Kalyn Ponga wins the Dally M medal.

- Jake Clifford nudges his conversion % up to around 75-80%.

- Bradman Best gets over his second year syndrome and wins Dally M centre of the year.

- Kurt Mann gets drafted in to play significant minutes at hooker after Randall struggles with consistently good service over the full 80.

- Simi Sasagi has a breakout season and has fans calling for him to be the starting 13 by round 6.

- Anthony Milford is in fact signed by the Knights after his charges are dropped in two weeks time.

- The quality of Milford’s performances are a hot topic of debate among fans but he ultimately plays at least 15 games as our starting 6, including finals.

- Some heat is taken off Ponga when we lose games, with Dane Gagai being a new lightning rod for unfair criticism.

- South Sydney & Manly slide on the NRL ladder, with the Knights taking advantage and pushing for a top four spot… ultimately missing out by 2 points due to a loss in round 25, finishing 5th.

Bailey is a fair bit bigger than Dufty with a very different build, I reckon that one’s gonna be wrong.
 
- Kicking for penalties in your own 40 and doing a 6 again over the rest of the field proves to be a nightmare for referees to manage, and there are some controversial “incorrect” awarding of penalties.

- Everyone who keeps lying to themselves and others that they think the six again is good admits they were wrong and gives a grovelling apology.

- PVL is forced out of the top job by media pressure midway through the season after making yet another rule change on a whim a quarter of the way into the season, which results in wall to wall outrage from Fox League and 9.

I'll go you one better.

Half the forum to be downtrodden and suicidal 15 minutes in to our first trial game. The other half of the forum to state it's only a trial and trial games mean nothing.

I’m on the trials mean nothing bandwagon. Sharks gave us a touch up in 2019 and we beat them a couple of weeks later. Means SFA just pray no injuries.

Melbourne come out and look clinical, we look like we chose the side by lottery of eligible aged men who have ever thought hey I could be a football star!

But really, OB just instructed the team to play like a little league team to keep our strategies close to our chest. :giggle:

He taught them so well they held those cards close the entire season.
 
Trials are what the coach wants them to be.
Brian Smith never won a trial at the Knights and never tried to.
He sent guys out to try combinations and plays and then get off and give someone else a try.

Alot of mockery around this one but I can actually see it happening.

NQL have a tonne of talent in the forwards, plus some good young stars coming through in Asi and Hamiso, if they can get their halves firing I think they might actually be one of the surprise packages this season, provided they stay injury free and put the Valentine Holmes at fullback rubbish in the dumpster where it belongs.
 
- COVID related issuess to affect at least 3 of our home games

- Kalyn Ponga to have over 20 try involvements (tries/assists)

- Adam Clune to be the surprise for us and consistently hold down #7

- Edrick Lee to be injured in the first game and miss the entire season

Jsaf - NSW origin debut
Dom Young - Makes a wing spot his own, knights top try scorer.
Jirah Momoisea - Plays 10+ games and impresses.
 
- Chris Randall's running game to prove quite dangerous in the opening 12 rounds

- Reserve grade to provide massive competition for spots across the board, with Dom Young to demand a spot in firsts after 5 rounds of dominant performances

- Jake Clifford's form making him a no brainer for origin 3 with QLD 2-0 down and looking for some new blood

I wouldn't mind NQL finishing above us as long as its 1st and 2nd place i'd take that .

I mean it’s substantially the same pack that’s carried them to four bottom 4 seasons in a row. The likes of Nanai and Luki look like nice talents but it’s a big ask to expect players so young to make a big difference, and Luki may not even be there come round 1.

Taumalolo isn’t the clear best forward in the NRL anymore and even if he was, they still have the same problems: too many old guys, too many guys with poor defensive mobility, too many guys prone to very poor defensive and handling errors. As brilliant as he’s been, they were still a losing team over the last years of his prime, and now he’s showing clear signs of decline.

Everyone looks at their roster as being good on paper but held back by coaching, but they’ve been so bad for so long… maybe it isn’t actually that good on paper? Maybe a lot of their players aren’t terribly good?

I mean, some of them were good. They play for us now 😂

In short, if you’re tipping them above us, then you’re tipping us to finish no higher than 15th.

Wouldn’t say Asi is a star coming through but he does show some promise of being a good first grader in future.

Hammer is going to take the NRL over this year if he stays injury free. There is no limit on his ability to break a tackle and just glide across the ground showing little to no effort.

McLean is useless but he is now having to play for a contract for next year so hopefully he puts in and has an above average season. Would greatly help this young forward pack.

Taumalolo broke both his hands last year with 3 broken hands in total throughout the season. Anyone doubting or questioning him is a fool and I’m very confident he will return to the wrecking ball of old.

Our young forwards are on another level compared to the rest of the comp as a group. Nanai is on a level of his own for his age, he has it all and could easily fill in at centre with his mobility and athleticism. Luki, Neame, Cotter and Gilbert form a very good core with the last 2 hopefully getting through the season injury free. Cotter is my favourite cowboy right now. His work goes severely unnoticed to most but he is our Murray/Radley. So happy we have him signed until 2026 I believe.
