The Boxing Thread

That right from AJ (presumably the one that broke his jaw).. I would have been killed 🤣
Paul couldn't keep his gloves up. His stance is way too shallow. Whoever his crew is really need to be sacked. AJ didn't even use 2nd gear. The guy(Paul) is a money chaser. Boxing is not his thing.

Michael Zerafa just confirming what an absolute cat he is.
He kinda took it out of his own hands by saying he couldn't see. Rewind to Tim and having blood streaming down into his eyes v fundora. He just needed to suck it up and box on. I think he was scared he might get towelled up by the lesser brother.

He knew exactly what would happen if he told the doctor that he couldn't see. He quit.

Yeah it’s a unfortunate thing to happen.

I mean they are professional fighters and at the end of the day if you can hardly see you really don’t want to be in the ring with a guy trained to beat you down.

I’m not sure how bad it was if it was like a Tom Aspinall type horrible thing that needed eye surgery or if it was just irritated. Regardless I still think he wanted out as Nikita looked good enough to beat him.

I wouldn’t call him a cat personally I mean he got in the ring with a bunch of fighters, I just think he knew he would lose and he didn’t want to fight a guy that he could hardly see and take unnecessary punishment so it was going to be a lose lose for him and he toke the easiest way out.

That’s my take on it, regardless horrible way for a fight to end.

Just clarifying, I’m not really learned in Boxing, because it was ā€œaccidentalā€ and not a ā€œpunchā€ that caused the injury - that’s why it’s a no result and not a loss for Zerafa?

Funny watching the video.
ā€œI can’t see, I can’t seeā€

Minutes later….

ā€œI said it’s a little blurry but I’m good to go, let’s go!ā€

Hahaha. Fraud.

Fight #2 of Heavyweight season underway. Derek ā€œDel Boyā€ Chisora hopefully going to finish Wilder once and for all.

For those of you who are yet to hear or watch Moses Itauma, watch his win vs Franklin last week and fight reel on You Tube. He will end up being in the conversation of best ever with Ali and Tyson. Has everything and would beat anyone in the division except maybe Usyk (but even he has admitted he’s not keen for it…)!

Fury next weekend and then Wardley vs Dubois (the cat) early May.

Heavyweight boxing kicking on……

You can literally see that look of ā€œJesus Christ what have I gotten myself intoā€ in the eyes of every Itauma opponent.

Personally I don’t think Tyson actually is in the GOAT convo but it’s definitely a valid comparison in terms of this guy just being an absolute wrecking ball where the only limitation on how far he can go is how badly he wants it, how committed he is, how much drive he’ll still have after he inevitably becomes the champ. And also how tough he is, how much ticker he has when he does finally run into an opponent he can’t run through like they’re made of cardboard. Tyson lost that drive, that edge, and he couldn’t beat anyone he couldn’t bully. Ali didn’t lose it and could find ways to win fights he shouldn’t. That’s what separates very good from great. I sincerely have Usyk above Tyson and I don’t think that should be controversial. Usyk would have stopped him between rounds 8 and 11.

But yeah hard to make the Itauma-Usyk fight unfortunately because it feels like they both kind of have more to lose than to gain from it.

Moses is so much more than a wrecking ball. He has incredible ring IQ, footwork and he’s not greedy in there. He’s the most complete heavyweight alongside Usyk. Would love to see the fight. Could happen early next year. Would be a perfect match up by then.

He’s similar to Tyson insofar as he will decimate what is currently a full and relatively balanced division. Tyson for me 100% in the GOAT conversation. What he did, how and when he did it was generational. This is what we may be able to witness.

Moses is from my home town and trained in my local club St Mary’s. Always produced tough British level boxers, but nothing like this young man. Will be an epic career to follow.

Agree with all this and that’s why he hasn’t really been tested yet. You don’t really see this combination of proficiency and sheer power. Most guys with this speed and power just lean on it. It’s like Jones Jr and Hopkins had a baby and they fed it growth hormones.

I would absolutely love to see the Usyk fight and I legit don’t know how it would go. Itauma wouldn’t demolish him, Usyk would keep the pressure on, but is Usyk quick enough to actually hit him? And then Moses’ only weakness comes from being too good, hasn’t had a fight which has gone longer than 6 rounds. We don’t know what he looks like late into a fight. They’re trying to find guys who can test him that long but haven’t yet šŸ˜‚

Yeah I just can’t agree with this, I just don’t think you can be in there if you never beat another properly great fighter in or near their prime. I don’t think he would have ever beaten Holyfield. At any time, including young ā€œbaddest man on the planetā€ Tyson. Mike ducked Evander for reasons that became obvious when they fought. And Lennox Lewis was better than both of them.

Young Mike was the most spectacular heavyweight ever, but that doesn’t put him in the GOAT convo. Have to agree to disagree probably.

Is there a chance of Usyk vs Itauma? I feel like whoever loses has an asterisk next to their name forever, but also whoever loses lost because they were too inexperienced/not ready (Itauma) or too old/past their prime for the speed and power of the young buck (Usyk). Just feels like a weird lose lose. But it would be awesome to see!
