The Boxing Thread

Didn’t see the fight but just saw the stoppage and that’s ridiculous.

No way was Parker up six rounds. Defo 2-3 rounds. I think the stoppage was a little premature too but that clip didn’t show all the other big hits he had taken. Tough for the refs, I think Parker would feel a bit hard done by but it’s not the crime that X post makes it lit to be.

Have seen it reported that “Parker was up 98-92 and 96-94 on two scorecards, with the other level at 95-95.”

Ridiculous indeed. They're heavyweights for goodness sake. Parker was tired and trying to defend, but didn't look like being knocked down to me. Let them fight.
Both Parker and his trainer Andy Lee didn’t make a big deal out of it. They get it could’ve gone either way and as is always the way with Kiwi’s, Joe was very gracious in defeat despite thinking he could go on. He has a few big nights left in him yet and I still have him as a top 5 heavyweight.

It doesn’t matter anymore as the formidable force that is Moses Itauma is about to start pulverising every dude in the division in the coming 12-24 months. Shame I don’t think we’ll see Moses vs Usyk as he’ll rightly be held back from him in next 12 months and then post that it will be the other way around as Usyk rides off into the sunset.

He’d have to get a couple of very good notches on his belt before he gets the Usyk fight and the problem with that is when you look as scary as Itauma does, you get ducked. Nobody who thinks they might have a shot at a payday vs Usyk will want to jeopardise that via an early stoppage vs Itauma.

It’s a shame. Usyk would work him right now and by the time Moses is ready Oleksandr will likely be too old.

It’s happening already. He’s being ducked by a lot of top 20 world heavyweights. He trains in a gym I did once upon a time. Rough area. I was from a not so rough part down the road and it was intense going there. Surprised the gym hasn’t had more British champion level boxers.

I hate how zealous modern fighters are about protecting their padded records.
Protecting the golden path to the bigger payouts more these days. I.e if AJ fought Moses and got battered, his next 2-3 purses would be 20% of what they would be if he keeps looking amazing against lower opponents. Just need that Fury vs AJ fight. The last hurrah for both of them. The UK is gagging for that fight and the whole world would tune in.

Yeah, Wembley Stadium one night in the British summer. It would be throbbing.

Crawford retires with immediate effect.

The last paragraph of the article I just read….”Crawford won 18 world titles in five weight classes, culminating in his win over Álvarez. He retires having never been officially knocked down in a fight. All of his 42 victories have come by way of unanimous decision or stoppage, with no judge ever scoring in favour of an opponent during his career.”

Wow! 🤩

Hope he backflips and fights again. He still has so much more to offer

Nothing more to prove & he actually is getting pretty old now. If you can get out with your brain still in good nick you should do that. Yeah, he could keep going, but honestly there will be a point where he slows down juuuuust a bit, and that’s when he might cop the sort of hit that causes him to rapidly deteriorate as a fighter… and then it’s a slippery slope from there to problems later in life.
