because if you watch the games propaly Mcmanus has been letting tries in from cross field bombs. teams kno to kick to him because they kno he cant jump and catch to well. and Mata'utia can catch heeps better
Mata'utia has looked the goods in his limited time in FG and McManus' play has probably dropped off a bit from his standards, but Mata'utia is still somewhat unproven and McManus is generally safe as houses.
He's had some blunders in defence by pushing in and allowing the overlap and hasn't necessarily been great in the air under pressure kicks, but it's still a very big call to drop McManus for Mata'utia.
I really like Mata'utia and if Bennett started the season with him on the wing over McManus I wouldn't complain. I'd probably question it but I wouldn't complain. Not because I think he's the better player but because I think he's a good up and coming player with a bright future. That and the fact I trust Bennett. Really can't see it happening though.
- where would you fit houston and taia in the starting 13 ????
In the number 11 and 12 jumpers. I don't see Edwards as a second rower because I don't think he's attacking enough to be playing on the fringes, not over Houston or Taia anyway. I think Edwards is strictly a lock. He can play the middle third of the field and make his mark on the game with his devastating defence. I also don't see him as a front rower as his go forward's somewhat lacking IMO. At lock he wouldn't have the responsibility to set the platform and provide great go forward like the front rowers do, he could just play his own game and work off the back of it. His whole game is great defence and that's ideal for a lock.
- hilder can replace naiqama
Hilder definately needs to be in the team somewhere, whether it's off the bench or starting lock. However I think Naiqama deserves to be in the team, preferably starting centre IMO. He's playing great footy atm and is in career best form this season.
- tuimavave can replace tolar
I definately think that's the right call. Tuimavave > Tolar hands down IMO. It's not very good for the front row rotation to only have one front rower on the bench though. Teams these days always roll with two on the bench. It's pretty much a necessity to keep up the intensity and the go forward. That's why I'd start with Costigan up front alongside Snowden. He played great guns there under Bennett and that would allow us to have two really good front rowers off the bench in Fa'aoso and Tuimavave. Fa'aoso is the ideal bench front rower IMO. Really sparks the team and provides great impact.
