Looking good for Paul Gallen but not Greg Bird in State of Origin II
SPORTING identical moon boots as they arrived in camp on Monday, the NSW bash brothers appeared long odds to live up to their nickname next Wednesday night.
But Blues officials are confident that Paul Gallen (foot) and Greg Bird (ankle) won't join Jarryd Hayne (hamstring) on the high-profile casualty list.
Gallen is due to ditch his boot Tuesday, while Bird received good news Monday night when scans revealed his ankle injury was not as severe as suspected.The tough Titans lock rolled his ankle in the opening stages of Saturday night's loss to Penrith in Darwin, but played out the game in a bid to help his club side to victory.
NSW coach Laurie Daley feared the worst when Bird flew to Sydney on crutches, so he named Roosters tyro Boyd Cordner as his shadow player.Bird had scans around lunchtime and a NSW spokesman said they showed a small medial tear that had caused excessive swelling around the joint.

WHEN Robbie Farah says he has never wanted to win a game of football more than this State of Origin decider, the emotion builds in his eyes.
As the Blues arrived in camp Monday, the tough hooker opened up about his personal motivation - and how every time he pulls on a NSW jersey he thinks of his late mother Sonia, who lost her battle with pancreatic cancer last year.
"I don't like dwelling on it or going back," Farah said. "But the last game Mum watched me play was in a sky blue jersey."That is why this jersey means so much to me and why I want to wear this jersey for as long as I am playing footy."
After seven consecutive series defeats, and especially the way in which the Blues lost in Brisbane two weeks ago, almost all the experts have given up on this being the year NSW end the dominance of this mighty Queensland team.
But not Farah.

Josh Dugan's first child due close to State of Origin III date
THEIR most capped player is out, their skipper is in doubt, and they're staring down the barrel of eight consecutive series defeats.
So the last thing NSW need ahead of next Wednesday's Origin decider are labour pains.
But that's the conundrum facing Blues fullback Josh Dugan, whose first child could well be born on match day.Having just returned from a controversial shoulder charge ban, Dugan on Monday revealed the baby was due on July 20, just three days after the biggest match of his career to date.And in a further complication, the birth will take place in Brisbane, where his ex-partner now lives.
Moments after joining NSW camp in Coogee, Dugan said he was undecided about what to do should the baby's arrival clash with Origin III.
"I've spoken to the mother and we've tried to work a few things out, but with pregnancy you never know how it's going to come so we're trying to take it day by day and go from there," he said.
