Yates is our Billy Peden. Doesn't necessarily mean I think he should still be there next year depending on who comes into the squad but he goes ok while not being an out and out star.

High praise....not that I disagree.

Billy Peden is the exact reason I like Luke Yates so much. To look at him he's small & should be out gunned, but the heart is underestimated & he doesn't shy away from putting his body on the line.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I love watching a guy who looks out of place show every one he deserves to be there

Yates is your typical workhorse. If he could play 80 minutes effectively I'd have him in my 17. They are in every team, tolman and gal just to name a couple.

Peden and Yates both debuted at age 23, but their back stories couldn't be more different.
Peden played all his juniors for Cessnock and got into the Knights through the real NRL.
Yates played lower grades for us for 8 years and won every possible award, including NSW selection in under 16s, and 18s.
I could be mistaken, but I reckon he was player of the year, players player or got the coaches award in 16s, 18s, 20s and reserve grade.

To add to it Yates has great potential and the kind of guy that seems wouldn't leave us for a bigger deal elsewhere. We need guys that want to bleed red n blue. Give the kid a chance it's been mentioned numerous times he was one of best in preseason, he deserves his spot.

How is comparing two players backgrounds jumping the gun?
You should probably be having a lap at me as I'm the one that's given him a lot of praise.

The other thing about Yates is he always aims up for big games.
He was 18th man for NSW at both under 16s and 18s level, got a start because of injuries, and was one of the best on the field in both games.
Also, when we won the reserve grade title we were a million to 1 to win the first game of the series because 5 of our best were playing firstgrade, but several guys, including Yates played like men possessed. Yates picked up an injury and a suspension in that game that kept him out of the rest of the finals, but he gave it everything to help win that game.

I see a lot of Tim Mannah in Yates, no real impact at the line but gets quick play the balls and goes all day. I hope he kicks on
