R360

Your right Lefty they would have got legal advice. But evey company that has a commercial agreement challeged at court and loses has had legal advice when drafting the agreement. It certainly doesnt mean the NRL on 100% solid ground.

Many things are extremely grey in commercial law. The players arent under awards, but still have rights. Most highly paid positions are outside awards but have protections. NRL is just manuevering it seems trying to scare players.
Yeh, it’s purely fear mongering.

NRL essentially de-registers them if they leave. And they need to be registered again to play. Which will be reviewed case by case.

If a Cleary or Haas got signed up for a year and it went belly up, PVL would be on his knees begging them to come back to NRL.

Jye Gray would probably be told to go get effed.

Roosters would be sweet to sign anybody.

It’s purely to add some doubt into the players mind. I don’t think too many will be calling their bluff. More due to the uncertainty.

NAS or RTS would go and have no concerns about getting another gig in NRL. But it could be a deterrent for Gray if things don’t work out. There’s a lot that could go wrong with R360 and no assurance it even gets up and running.

Bye Round/ James Graham was basically saying that players would almost need to get their money up front to make the risk worthwhile otherwise they’ll waste the whole season, and it could fall over and they’ll end up with no club, no wage for 2026 and no R360. And I can’t see the powerbrokers of this comp paying wages before a ball is kicked.

The whole thing is a storm in a teacup. I’m sure all the rumoured players won’t go, meaning it might be one or two … probably older players who want a final payout. Can’t believe how much airtime and reaction it’s getting in the media.

Also don’t see how it could be a big money spinner for any of the investors. There won’t be any astronomical tv right deals for this, I don’t think.

Good overview of R360 here from a non-Australian, non-NRL focused perspective.

Sounds like even more of a disaster waiting to happen than I'd realized. Players will be signed by the league, not a specific team and get drafted IPL-style. But given it isn't a week-to-week competition (there are only 8 games a year?!), they won't need to relocate, and will just fly into camp for a week at a random city around the world.

Outside of an astronomical paycheck, why would any decent player sign up to play 8 games a year, in a scenario where they barely even have any club'mates' because you live all over the world, and lock themselves out of state/national representation? And why would anyone watch this even if they got big players - there's no built-in team loyalty, and the standard of play will be really low because the teams barely play together.

James is right - storm in a teacup.

That's pretty funny, Pappy sounds like he legit wanted a year off, but Lomax situation on the other hand is hilarious, bloke who had a purple season and has no status in the game, he'll get a contract in union somewhere but it will be of the train and trial type.

Eels have also spent his dough.

I enjoy they put the clauses in Lomax’s release. He can’t play with another NRL club unless Eels agree to the “compensation package” - which l presume could be $$$ or players I guess.
Curious if the eels would take him back for ‘cut price’ or if he jumps to union - not sure if theres any compensation required from union to allow him to play.

Have zero empathy for the guy. The last few years haven’t painted him in the best light. I get it, it’s a 10 year period to make as much bank or popularity as you can to set up post football life. But between his highlights reel flick passes over the sidelines, demanding positions, demanding releases x 2 over 3 years to get out of pretty decent contracts and clubs that have put a lot of faith in him. Type of character I hope never comes near a red and blue jersey.

Think Paps will be an interesting development. Seems to have everyone convinced he just wants to relax for the year and reassess his career. A few close to him saying they wouldn’t be surprised if he never plays sport again.

Just thought it was interesting to note the struggles the Red Devils have gone through after changing ownership statuses and ‘billionaires’ Koukash sold the team to a community trust and wrote off any debt they owed him. After continued poor finances they were taken over recently again and again going into liquidation hopefully rise above it from the upcoming season.
Oh and Koukash went bankrupt in 2022 and was removed as a horse racing owner or something along those lines. Gee whiz who does that remind you off…

Makes you think how lucky we were to escape all that Tinkler stuff and come through it and how absurd it is that people were and have walked away from contracts to take up a sport and competition that was no guarantee to start up the following year or year after.

FML I still remember the big press conference with Tinkler and Wayne answering community questions.

Everyone thinks Wayne is a loveable guy and a legend, maybe he is except his time here, what did he do fly in 2 days a week, allegedly cheated on his wife, and left us in the hands of his underwhelming assistants. Than the second the gold mine shut, couldn't get out fast enough.

Brought in great players like:

Darius Boyd(Non origin version), Matt Minto, Jeremy Smith(busted version.), Neville Costigan(always played hooker when gun middle.), Kade Snowden(with back issues on $500k, about $1 million now.), the Sims who thieved big $ for 2 years.

Matt Gidley as a CEO sure helped LMFAO.

I remember wanting to strangle Wayne during his last press conference, basically saying we were sh!!!t and he couldn't be bothered.

Yes I am bitter lol.

2014 he was poor. He struggled when the team struggled. But I always found him to be a class above talent wise.

Just small stuff. He was very safe out the back. Was an intelligent and finely skilled footballer. Even his hit ups, he managed more post contact metres that most of our forwards just by using his body correctly and with subtle movements before the line.

He left a bad taste in everyone's mouth because of who he was. But I loved having him in the team

Am I the only one who thought Darius Boyd was still world class and arguably our best player while at the club?
Darius had some mental demons that he was overcoming throughout his career.
While he played some excellent games for the Knights, there was a period where he point blank refused to catch , or attempt to catch high kicks, letting them bounce. It seemed so out of character for him, and I never had the same confidence in him after that period.
