PRE-SEASON CHALLENGE R2 - KNIGHTS V STORM - 1.45 Sat 24th - Churchill Park, Fiji

Marz - 4.7
Tuala - 3.1
Moceidreke - 3.1
Jenkins - 2.7
Armstrong - 2
Ok maybe I'm wrong about Tuala. I hope I am and he proves not to be a weakness for us. I thought Morceidreke looked the best for us ( besides Marz) and he will get his chance at some point.

Ponga and Best both looked at a new level of fitness and Hastings went 50 or 60 minutes and didn't look uncomfortable are the 3 best things IMO.
I love yours and Harv’s positivity. And I really think it’s warranted this season. That left side is going to light this comp up!

If Gamble is a better defender than Hastings this year that’s a huge win, because Hastings has been really good defensively his whole career and Gamble has been more wholehearted than actually good. His technique has improved with us a lot though.

I think the tries which went through Hastings’ channel had more to do with getting badly beaten in the ruck & poor reads from guys around him, than with what he did.

The Safs are in Taomololo cruise mode. Have been for a couple years, mostly Daniel. Jacob has been working towards his ceiling.

No hesitation from either of them demonstrating what they're capable of when picked for SOO, though. But seem comfortable to get dominated in the ruck these days. Not sure what AOB can do to get them up to their best (aimed mostly at Daniel). The difference between their standard contribution and best contribution is probably the difference between between us just making the top 8 or making the top 4

I am really disappointed with the Safs in this game....but I've also got to ask what the coaching staff are doing in terms of getting them to hit the advantage line at pace?!

If you watch pretty much every hit up both the Safs make (4 out of 5, by my count) in this game, they are coming off a 3 or 4 step run up before receiving the ball and they are generally stuttering or baulking their run because they aren't reading the timing off the ruck, coming at pace and with intent. From this, they are easily controlled and pose minimal threat to the defensive line because they are so easy to control and wrap up, without every really threatening to break through or offload and consequently they also have slow play the balls.

By comparison King, Welch, Kamikamica, etc. are all at full tilt and accelerating as they receive the ball and making metres across the advantage line and getting quick play the balls as a result.

I agree Jacob is more threatening than Dan but their approach and timing of runs for their hit ups is almost under 10s level structure, so I've got to ask what are the coaching staff doing to fix a fundamental problem in maximising the impact of what should be our 2 leading strike weapons to get us rolling forward???

They know what to do, they just cbf doing it. Thompson doesn't have any trouble with it.

Brailey may help somewhat, but I really don't see how 90% of it isn't directly effort related on behalf of the Safs. They spent the first years of their career doing it to great effect with Levi serving them
