Possible/Forgotten Halfbacks

also greg eastwood would be a good pick up if we through a bit of cash at him, say $250 000 to $300 000?

I highly rate head, shirwin, josh lewis, joe williams, witt and michael dobson and I think these players would take the oppurtunity and excel with another chance at NRL first grade.

agree completely scottys better then those guys and if not scotty then id prefer gids at 5/8 and mcdonnel at fullback instead of wasting money on those has beens
 
We have two good halves, what they need is someone to teach them and take some of the pressure off. Shame thats easier said than done, what we don't need is a washed up half who couldn't make the grade or another young bloke
 
The only players i would consider, are Finch and Monaghan, the rest like sherwin are all useless
 
fair enough than i was just throwing names up in the air, personally id take these blokes over scotty though i cant watch the footy every week and probably havnt realised his potential. I rate head pretty damn high.
 
Monaghan is 29 now, havent seen him play in a while, but if his is still at a similar standard to what he was at Manly, I'd sign him to 2-3 year deal. I think Canberra want him back though.

Matt Head is back playing in my local league, for his former club Dapto, and has apparently put on a bit of weight. So I dont think that would be the greatest option.

Sherwin is 32, and showed he had little left in his last year in the NRL.

Finch, along with Monaghan are probably the only legitimate options from that list. 28, so still has a bit to offer, maitland boy and former ball boy, so seems the most likely out of the list to sign with us. Last 12 months a little hard to judge cause he has been on a premiership winning team, and hasnt had to do much, to get a better insight to how he'll play at the knights, would have to watch him at the eels 2008, and start of 2009. Personally I dont see it as a very good option (had an early release from the Roosters and Eels, not a good sign), but no doubt it would improve the halves. He'd probably want 300k+, id give him 200-220k max.

The rest on that list are inexperience, or arnt even as good as Dureau.

why not do the old switcheroo on scotty and mullen. put mullen at 7 and dureau in at 6. in another thread i mentioned that bringing finch in to play 7 wouldnt work, and got the no it all response of, mullen would play 7 and finch would play 6. why not try it with what they have. remember that mullen and dureau played alot of junior football together, and would be very well aware of each others styles. there isnt many halves combos out there that have history like that, and once they get a few good games going, i reckon they would be a hard combo.

as a member of sharksforever, i see teh same thing over there also. people thinking they can put together a wonderful team of players. why arent these people in the recruiting board hey? theres alot of football 'gurus' who can sit and yell and the screen and say what should be done. but once ur on the feild its a whole different thing, which requires stringing together plays in the spur of the moment, organising players into there patterns and basically making sure people are where they should be to execute the play, it takes more than 1 guy to win a game, u could bring in any of the best halves in the game, but if forwards are dropping balls, or wingers arent making breaks, what good are they?

Nah, Michael Monaghan wanted to come back to Canberra to play with Joel, but Canberra weren't interested. The Raiders make some terrible recruitment decisions ...
 
if shifty sherwin was a few years younger, i would. Monaghan has a good kicking game. We really do need a ball player though...
 
Finch hands down. Solid, consistent player, very experienced, still plays FG (unlike the rest of them), and is playing some decent football with Melbourne atm.

I would take finch aswell, good ball player, not the most talented kicker but chooses the right time to run.
 
In terms of talent, Finch isn't much better then Rogers/Dureau. But he is a great talker which we severely lack imo. And he seems to make the right plays/choices when needed.

Sorry gotta disagree with you on that one, skill wise finch is a few steps ahead of those and like you said a big talker and good leader.
