You guys are delusional. Sione tore it up in his first year also. I'm not saying he won't be good but I'll wait my time to put up those type statements.

Sione did nothing in 2014 that he wouldn't have been able to do in 2015 when he had his **** year. Just in the right team, in the right position, at the right time. He wasn't in some awesome form that he's failed to replicate like most people say.

Probably will say that you can never judge someone a future superstar after a few games though. Ponga showed brilliant footwork, but the real test will be in the coming seasons to see if he can bulk up to match the physicality, while still keeping his agility. And also defying other teams learning how to defend him, which usually happens to any player that looks unstoppable in their first breakout year.

This is my concern with Ross.
No doubting Ross had a good year but this was he first real season in the NRL.
He had everything to play for.
It was his last crack to make it in the NRL.
Team will now know he's dangerous ball runner and start double teaming him.
So many players have looked unstoppable in their first year but struggle to make the same impact once oppositions have done their homework.
They are now expected to perform as well.

Ross Dawg has one big thing going for him despite how opps decide to defend against him. In a tackle he is a real struggler which refs like to see, and as a result draws penalties as a magnet draws iron filings.

I was thinking this the other day too. It could very easily backfire on us, he's a 28-year-old & could go on the downward spiral anyway due to age. Fortunately, I don't think Rossy is the kind of player to not give his all, so even if he can't replicate the form, at least he will have a go, which is something that we'll probably inevitably need throughout the year in the position we are in.

I noticed the other day that Ross, on twitter, was talking about being at some sprinting camp - so he is spending his time off training by training.
He said in interviews earlier this year that this is the first year he has been completely focused on diet and training, and the first time he has been a full time professional athlete.
In the last few years he has put on 15kg and improved every aspect of his game - some aspects out of sight.

You never know when a player has peaked, and maybe he has this year, but my feeling is that he was a park football player just two years ago and he has a hell of a lot of things to work on, and he is doing everything he can to improve, so maybe he has a bit more yet.

From the Daily Telegraph, I doubt he would even consider us tbh

The kid is special, No doubt about it

And with his shift onto the NRL open market imminent, Ponga has signed on with rising management company Rush Sports, whose principal Wayde Rushton described the teen as “quiet, humble ... but undoubtedly one of league’s great talents”.

While Rushton refused to speculate on where interest in Ponga may come from, both Brisbane and Gold Coast are understood to be keen on luring the teenage fullback from the Cowboys.

Further south, Newcastle, St George Illawarra and Canterbury are also likely suitors, while Melbourne and his current club North Queensland round out the seven said to be in the mix.

Nobody is freakish until they perform well at NRL level, and not just in a debut season (although that is still pretty good!)
Any talented kid can rip it up in cup, nrl us a whole different ball park, especially fullback

Don't worry about Ponga. Rusty and Greenie will have wrapped him up in one of those delight 'discounted' units in Townsville to keep him safe from Uncle Nick at the chooks or Uncle Benny at the broncs let alone us.

Mate I have coached kids footy for a lot of years now and I can tell you that there are freakish players out there in all different ages ...You don't have to be an NRL player to be freakish and most freakish NRL players were the same coming through the ranks ...
I was on my verandah and 2x15 yr olds across the road had a ball on a kicking tee and were pointing at the power line hanging across the road. The kid kicking is about 6'2 skinny and afro with old joggers and no laces , he kicked from about 30 m away and hit the line .
I said $5er if you can do it again and he did , so I said a $5er if you can do it again and he did , like it was nothing. That was freakish ....
