Phoenix Crossland discussion

Set to miss the grand final, potentially around 4-6 weeks in total. Not sure if World Cup games count towards this. It seems a bit confusing because wouldn't they have to waste a squad spot on him?
 
World Cup will count, but it's a bit of a pared back tournament. No quarters ... max games that will count if NZ makes the final is 5.
 
It’s pretty weak of Knights management or whoever makes that decision IMO. It’s a grand final and there are plenty of other prior examples that make a strong case, including one that’s going to run out again on Sunday.
In the scheme of things, what’s another 2 games? He’s already missing the grand final and World Cup, so who cares, just pay the money for the best lawyer and roll the ****ing dice, the man deserves it.

They might've thought that pleading for leniency rather than innocence, based on the footage and nature of the offence, was more likely to result in clearance to play.
 
Agreed, it's in the clubs best interest to direct efforts to incorporate the whole suspension to the WC (unfortunate for Phoenix) rather than gambling on a suspension reduction which doesn't help the club much at all. Can probably only get one of the two and I guarantee even Crossland would prefer the leniency option to play in a GF.
 
I’m not super aware of the various implications of pleading guilty vs not guilty.
My understanding would be you fight:
a) if it’s a hip drop
Then b) how bad it was
Then c) negotiate the suspension

But maybe there’s some goodwill for not wasting their time



Also, just quietly, Lucas breaks his leg when the Roosters player pins it on the ground with his body, after tackling high and sliding low….there is no rotation/swing though.
