Credit to him, I thought he started the season in not the greatest form, but he’s really found himself a home at 14. Even when Brailey plays 80, he comes on and has a great impact.
100%!The funny thing is he is playing exactly the same style at 7 he played all through the juniors.
They tried to teach him traditional halfback skills of playmaking and game management and he didn't really take to it.
They let him go back to his high energy, high workrate, aggressive style that saw him make all the rep teams as a junior, and it's still what he does well - surprise, surprise.
Many won't agree, but he's a better version of Tyson Gamble as a half - higher workrate, better defence, more energy, a bit less aggression, but Tyson overdoes that a bit.
Gamble and Crossland in the halves together would be the ultimate competitor tag teamTyson is better at key halves stuff like putting blokes through holes, BUT, he’s 28 and has well over 100 games over reserve and first grade almost exclusively playing in the halves.
Whereas Phoenix is a 24 year old who’s been shuffled between positions - only about a third of his reggies and first grade games have been in the halves.
I do think Phoenix is a better defender.
