NRLW Recruitment & Retention Thread

And again today. Training in singlet and knights shorts. Be pretty stoked to have her. Defensively she might take some learning, but if she's willing to put in on a development deal and play reserves this yr and a pre-season next season. Could be a female version of Uate!
Yeah full training kit seems more than just a coincidence.

NRLW just posted an interview where Bailous says Upton is the player she admires the most:

Falcons down 18-4 at halftime. Gallagher has only had a few runs but continues to dominate anyone who makes the mistake of running the ball towards her. Highlights were easily handling a rampaging Olivia Kernick on a line break and then pulling someone’s arm out of it's socket dragging her back towards the in-goal (not an exaggeration, the girl was injured unfortunately but nothing illegal in the tackle).

Playing wing but switched with the fullback for a few sets in defence. They’ve got her running in to take the kick for touch on penalties as well.
She’s playing full back in union too, kicks for touch on penalties and their conversions. Had some good combinations with Leati who played outside centre last night.

It's too early to talk about the under 17rs girls for a couple of years, but several of them look like they could go on with it if they want to keep working on it.
2nd rower Summer Dowell looked the most likely to me. She seems to be very strong in both attack and defence and didn't do a thing wrong yesterday, but she isn't the only one who impressed.

Article on Women’s Origin in the Telegraph mentions the Southwells have been part of a 34-women group training in Sydney twice a week in preparation. Doesn’t give a full list in the article but I’ve noticed on social media that Clydsdale, Johnston, Higgins & Gallagher seem to be doing the same.

Southwells and Gallagher were late scratchings from their BMD premiership sides last week and haven’t been named for this week. Upton still named.

Olivia Kernick and Kezie Apps didn't play round 5 either.
Very exciting if Gallagher is in the NSW extended squad.
Also good if Hannah Southwell is back in the fold. Says she is over her injuries.

That sucks big time, but we now have to be as pro active and hunt another team for a similar level player and re sign Kayla Romaniuk and Tayla Predeborn

Maybe even hunt Tiana Davison back from roosters or try to swindle Molly back as she has last few years as player options

The thing about the women's game is that the standards are improving rapidly.
We have her for this year and it sounds like Cronulla have signed her till the end of 2027.
She was at another level to the comp 2 years ago, but last year nearly every team had someone pretty similar.
In 4 years time, it sounds like she will be getting good money from Cronulla, and I suspect she won't be a standout.

Most teams are going for pretty short contracts, and I think that's the way to go.

Herald article on the Johnston news, but also has Jeffries saying the top 24 will be formally announced tomorrow. He says there was 22 already signed when he arrived but they've since signed a winger and a second-rower. By my count there had been 23 announced so something is off, whether he just misspoke or someone has moved on.

1. Abigal Roache
2. Caitlan Johnston
3. Evie Jones
4. Felila Kia
5. Georgia Roche
6. Hannah Southwell
7. Jacinta Carter
8. Jayde Herdegen
9. Jesse Southwell
10. Jules Kirkpatrick
11. Kayla Romaniuk
12. Laishon Albert-Jones
13. Nita Maynard
14. Olivia Higgins
15. Rima Butler*
16. Simone Karpani
17. Shanice Parker
18. Sheridan Gallagher
19. Tamerah Leati
20. Tamika Upton
21. Tayla Predebon
22. Yasmin Clydsdale
23. Viena Tinao
24. -

25. Evah McEwen (development)
26. Leah Ollerton (development)
27. Lilly-Ann White (development)

Rima Butler is the only one who hasn't been officially announced by the club, but she did have a player option so not making an announcement that she picked it up wouldn't be uncommon. She was at the all-grades training day a couple of months ago so it'd be surprising if she's gone now.

Actually looking back now Jeffries was announced as coach the week before it was announced Gallagher had re-signed so maybe she's the winger he's referring to. We got through last season with the same 4 wingers/centres every game, better hope we get that lucky again because we've only got 4 signed if that's the case.

Yeah, I don’t know man. I would say at least half the teams lacked someone even in the same ball park. She’s a top 5 middle in the game. It’s a huge loss.

Yes, some new very good middles have emerged, but also a lot of the ones who were already good have improved too, on a higher starting point. I would say Shannon Mato is now the best middle in the women’s game and she’s in her fifth season this year.

That's a massive blow losing Caitlin. Hope she can at least leave with a 3rd straight title here before going to Cronulla.
