NRLW Recruitment & Retention Thread

Article on Hannah Southwell and her role as under 17s coach.
The article also profiles 3 of her young players - Brooklyn Davico, Summer Dowell and Emily McArthur - all 3 sound impressive. 16 year old Brooklyn Davico is the daughter of Luke Davico she looks like an impressive athlete in her photo - a lot like Millie Boyle in appearance.

Good read. Davico is powerful looking isn't she. Noticed her in the game last week actually, very powerful and seems to be warming to it every round.

I'd also mention Fullback Macey Cox who scored a wonderful length of the field try a week or two ago and Maronay Smuts the 5/8 has her hands on most TA's

“We are going to do some training early in the week [with the Gems], then play at the National Championships and afterwards they are going to take us to see some teams," Bailous said.

"I am going to have a close look at those and hopefully I get to train with the Knights and the Titans, and some other clubs."

Both winners from the NRLW combine in Vegas will visit and train with the Knights by the sound of things.

The stats for women's Qld cup are probably very unreliable, but just looked at Sheridan Gallagher's second game and she topped every stat for her team except number of tackles - runs, run metres, line breaks, tackle breaks, tries, post contact metres, fantasy points - in fact her 94 post contact metres were way more than anyone else's run metres.
Her team lost, but I don't think it was down to her.

Just had a watch. Would love to know what the stat person bases these numbers off because 214m 94pcm seems highly exaggerated once again, but she was good. Definitely went looking for the ball more after not seeing much of it last week. On one play she wrapped around to the other side of the field like an extra fullback, and another she got the ball at first receiver off the scrum and threw a cutout pass that created a linebreak. Most impressive thing I saw was she chased a kicked and pinned the winger down a few metres out from the tryline with a 1 on 1 tackle, and then chased from marker and smashed the first receiver.

Talk of NRLW game in Vegas next year. Should be Knights vs Titans. GF rematch. But will probably end up being Roosters vs Broncos.

But also a no brainer to have Knights Girls and Knights Lads apart of the trip. Put club in spotlight.

Capras still winless after 3 rounds. Scored 3 tries; one set up by Upton, one by Southwell and one by both. Skipped to fulltime and the Knights trio are healthy and on the field so it's a win in my books.

Falcons lost as well with Gallagher playing fullback this week. She got sin binned for a professional foul but the play is pretty impressive - she chases down a runaway player and stops what looks like a certain try by basically manhandling her back into the field of play before holding her down too long.

Good to see her getting a chance at fullback, although I'd rather see her trying positions that are ones she could be used at the Knights.

Not sure of McEwen's age but she looks overqualified to be in Tarsha Gale Cup. 9 tries in 6 games this season and she missed the game against the wooden spoon Dragons where we put on 50. Likely would've had a few more.

Don't know how that's not a dominant tackle.
She did everything short of putting her over her knee and spanking her.

On NBN news - Bec Young and Ian Bourke are Jeffery's assistant coaches.

That seems ideal to me.
Bourke was the unsung hero of our last 2 premierships and Young would have a great relationship with all our senior players.

Warriors and Bulldogs announced as expansion teams for 2025. We have a fair few off-contract including some from Auckland and Western Sydney.

Well Rima will definitely be gone. Maybe Sheridan but I think we resigned her till 25end. Biggest concern is Abigail Roach. Reckon she’ll have a massive yr for us this yr. No doubt she’d love to get back home to NZ. Love to convince her otherwise for couple more seasons though.

Turnover of players is not a bad thing in NRLW.
The game is improving so rapidly that making places for the next Jesse Southwell and Sheridan Gallagher is pretty important if you want to stay ahead of the game.

Parr was pretty adamant that he wanted to rely mostly on local talent in next yr or so. So not to get into bidding wars or as you say left behind as players would rather not relocate.

Liking what Im seeing from Tarsha Gale, few standouts there and a couple showing promise in Lisa Fialoa.

Dogs have been VERY strong in those grades, interesting to see how that progresses into NRLW
