NRLW Recruitment & Retention Thread

Will be interesting to see if she .maybe got a good deal to play soccer and league again, with Canberra having a decent football team in woman’s w-League and then another payday to play league with them and they probably threw more money at her
It was interesting that she didn’t make either Aus teams so could be as she doing the football season into league season again
Yeah apparently she is going for the Soccer. Thought she was only doing that for the extra fitness but maybe she’s thinking about getting back into it seriously

The ten year rebuilding phase has officially begun.
The women's game is still starting at a very low base for skills and experience.
Sheridan Gallagher basically walked in off the street as an outstanding athlete with no Rugby League knowledge and waltzed into firstgrade - and there are players in most teams with similar stories.
In the men's game, most have been playing since they were 6 and only the dedicated few can rise to the top.
Players like Ava Glassie started this year towards the end of Tarsha Gale and obviously didn't have a clue how to play, but is 6 foot tall and very fast and elusive, and by the end of the year she was scoring tries for fun in HVN cup.
Basically, it's still possible to turn a great athlete into an NRLW player in a year or 2.

So an article in the Herald lists all the rep players and says our Australian Schoolgirls reps are Emily McArthur and Stevie Botham, but doesn't list Stella Lewis who is in the team and all lists of our squad next year have her as in the top 24.
Have we lost her? or is the Herald wrong?

According to this, she’s locked up for the next few years

Pretty big miss by the Herald given she’s the captain

Looked at the Herald article again and they worded it "local" players in the Schoolboys and girls Toby Winter, Emily McArthur and Stevie Botham and lists all their schools, so they are correct by their wording, because Lewis is listed as at school in Port Macquarie.
The rest of the article says we have 14 in rep sides, including the 3 listed - but not Lewis.

I can kinda see where your coming from bill but I don't see Ava as this cometh the hour kinda gal. Yeah she's tall, fast but not much else. Much ways to go before she is even considered for nrlw but I'd like her to prove me wrong.

Well I picked her as an example of someone who has gone from dropping the ball every time she was tackled to a pretty decent player in 1 season because she is naturally athletic.
You still see progress like that in the women's game, but not the men's game these days.

The schoolgirls game is on Sunday starting 9 am and is being streamed on nrl.com - the schoolboys is after the schoolgirls.

Article in the Herald today about how well Caitlan Moran went in the Koori Knockout and how she is now engaged and sober and took a year off playing in 2025 apart from some local games on the central coast.

She was the standout, along with Caitlan Johnson, for the Newcastle Yowies in their very strong win in the Koori knockout.
Just this week we saw Pheonix-Raine Hippi getting massive praise for her game for the PMs 13, but the week before she had been absolutely terrorised by the kicking game of Caitlan Moran in the final of the Koori knockout.

The article in the Herald today says she is 28 and working in mental health, engaged and sober and looking for somewhere to play next year.

Telegraph did an analysis of all the club's rosters and potential moves. Has Simpson, White, Giampino & Staines all in the "in-limbo" category.

Also says there's a rumour the Knights are interested in getting Kirra Dibb back.

Would be happy to get Kira Dibb back, I always liked her and a smart footy player with a big boot on her. Had a feeling she left with a bit of frustration to club and certain star players who aren't here anymore.

Off-field frustration seems to follow her everywhere she goes, think she's a bit of a Hastings in regards to fitting into a team environment. She'd slot straight in alongside Roche though, and I'd be surprised if a more talented half becomes available. Already played a season under Jeffries at the Cowboys for whatever that's worth.

Dibb has good skills, but she rarely steps up in the big moments and fades in and out of games.

I keep thinking we should put a lot of time and effort into getting Roche very fit and make her 7, with Evie Jones at 6 - and spend Jesse's money on a couple of very good forwards instead. Caitlan Moran in reserve grade as back up half.

Article in The Herald, the Knights quite rightly are pretty pissed at Jesse / Anasta for dragging on negotiations as long as they did. Says they could’ve been looking for replacements if she was never staying.

Offered her a highly competitive, 7 year deal (unheard of in women’s game) with the option to play Rugby in the offseason as well.

They were also pretty unimpressed with Jesse’s comments about wanting to win given her success at the club. Chris James also has a bit of a dig at the NRL and how they’ve let all the talent pool into two teams as it will make it harder to gain corporate support if the comp is perceived as a 2 horse race.

He goes onto say that the Knights have been looking at replacements and hope to be in a position to announce some key signings that will strengthen the team in a few areas in the next week or two

The club should have seen the writing on the wall with her with Upton and Hannah unless Jessie was 2 faced and said she was committed and just tagged along all year trying to get more out of the broncos

But Braithwaite is definitely the next Issac Moses, wouldn’t go near him or his clients unless a player was specifically ask to come her and want to 100% as he seems to only want to send his players to clubs he thinks almost guarantees premierships and success so he can’t spruik them up on NRL 360. He will probably first time in his life talk up NRLW on the show now Jessie gone to Broncos

And this a whole ordeal just sheds such poor light on Jessie and shows her immaturity, she would wanna hope she plays well first game in England as if she coasts like she did back part of the year her postition in rep footy might go downhill fast too

She might be very happy to coast along in that Jillaroos team, what with having little responsibilities and all. Upton will overcall / make all the plays. JS just has to feed her the footy.
