NRLW Recruitment & Retention Thread

We have Tiana Davidson coming back to the club. My round 1 side thus far:

1. Tenika Willison
2. Lilly-Anne White
3. Shanice Parker
4. ???
5. Sherrdian Gallagher
6. Georgia Roche
7. Jesse Southwell
8. Tayla Predebon
9. Olivia Higgins
10. Kayla Romanikiuk
11. Tiana Davison
12. Yasmin Clydsdale
13. Hannah Southwell

14. Evie Jones/Leah Ollerton
15. Viena Tinao
16. Jules Kirkpatrick
17. Simone Karpani

18th. Leah Ollerton/Evie Jones

1. Lily Ann-White (or Bo Vette Welsh if we sign her and Jeffries decides Lily isn’t ready)
2. Tenika Willison
3. Shanice Parker
4. Fane Finau
5. Sheridan Gallagher
6. Georgia Roche
7. Jesse Southwell

13. Hannah Southwell
12. Yasmin Cyldsdale

10. Tiana Davison
9. Olivia Higgins
8. Grace Kukutai

14. Evie Jones
15. Kayla Romaniuk
16. Tayla Predebon
17. Simone Karpani

I would personally lean towards Roche and Jones as the halves and Jesse at 14, but no point listing the team that way. It’s not happening.

1. Bo Vette
2. Sheridan Gallagher
3. Shanice Parker
4. Tanika Wilkerson
5. Anne-White
6. Jessie Southwell
7. Evie Jones
8. Hannah Southwell
9. Livie Higgins
10. Tiana Davison
11. Evah McEwen
12. Yas
13. Georgia Roach

14. Leah Ollerton
15. Romaniuk
16. Kukutai
17 Kirkpatrick.

We really need another decent forward though I have left out Karpani and Predabon Who can easily do the job.

Fane Finau is going to be pushing hard for a centre spot next season. Very strong runner of the ball and good in defensive contact.

I think Evie Jones can run the show at 7 fine a long with Jesse running the ball as often as she wants. Georgia Roach be great at 13 linking the attack.

Whatever the team is I can already tell we’re gonna be one of the worst attacking teams in the comp. Our points scored is going to take a massive hit with Tamika gone.

I don’t think so. How often does the men’s team find new ways to score plenty of tries when KP isn’t there. In all honesty it could end up being the best hung for likes of Evie and Jesse. Now it’s on them. McEwen only needs half a chance, strong backline who are Better than 90% of squads.

It's a huge season for Jesse. After her debut season it seemed inevitable that she'd go on to be the Joey of the women's game. So far over 2023-24 she's been the Luke Brooks.

She's still as talented as anyone. This team is her's if she wants it badly enough.

Joeli Morris had to play mostly 5/8 in HVN cup (don't know why I'm using the sharemarket code for Harvey Norman - must be a habit), but she made no secret of wanting to play hooker and lock in the future, as she sees that as her path to firstgrade.
Evie Jones is clearly best suited to 7.
To be honest, I think Georgia Roche would be great for any of the new teams in the comp with her experience and halves skills, and I think we'd be better with Southwell and Jones in the halves and Joeli Morris at 14.
If Georgia wanted to explore NZ, I think Ron might have a spot for her.

We had a distinct lack of speed in the halves last year, I'd like to see both Jesse and Georgia doing plenty of sprint training in the off-season, even at the expense of gym work. I think that alone could help compensate for the lose of Tamika.

Both need to do a good hard preseason. Both sluggish and overweight to be playing elite sport in those positions.

I think Georgia is plenty fit, she's just not an athlete.

She played very well this year and was consistently the half who did the best job of getting the ball to her strike players in good positions. Can't fault her performances too much & I don't think there's any amount of sprint training which will make her fast.

I agree with most of that, Georgia is the best ball player we now have. Paradoxically, we scored a lot more tries down the other side of the park. But on the sprint training thing, it isn't to make her fast, that isn't going to happen. But a bit quicker off the mark and more agility would aid her game. She got in to space a few times late in the season and couldn't quite slice through. Another example of someone who I'd ease up on the gym work and spend that time on the sprint course would be David Fifita. He looked huge last year muscle wise but hit the line at about half the speed he used to. I think too many sacrifice speed and power for strength. I look at someone like Gags as someone who I think has got it right over a long career.

Tough balancing act though hey, because there've also been games where Gagai has been given an absolute bath by opposing centres who are simply too big and strong for him.

Id argue if she lost 5-10kg shed be quicker off the mark and moving laterally. She did play well didn't fault that, but she's paid plenty of cash now to be a professional athlete her body isn't aligned with that currently and Jesse' certainly isn't. They need to come back ripped like KP ;)

I could be wrong, but didn’t Shanice Parker play a great game at fullback for us? If so I’d have her as my pick for next season.

There’s probably 5 internal options I’d rather see there than Vette-Welsh. Either way we’re going from the best fullback to one who’ll go into the season as one of the worst, I’d at least rather it be someone with upside to be hopeful about. Vette-Welsh is not the answer in any way. If she's here I hope it's as a winger.

Hopefully Clydsdale & McEwen are the 2 best second-rowers in the comp next year because I don’t know where our points are coming from otherwise.

Not sure Peter Parr has had the impact I was hoping for. A significant number of the Two Time Premiership Winning side has left including the coach and unfortunately I don't see how you can sugar coat this. I thought Upton looked really frustrated in the semi-final loss and I'm not surprised she has gone.
Completely agree. All this ties back to him removing Ron. Why mess with success. Good clubs don’t do that. We had a much loved, respected true leader, who’s won two comps. They should’ve offered him same role the Warriors have.

Now instead they have a socially inept plank of wood as a coach, who isn’t liked or respected.

Not only have they’ve also lost the most talented prop in the game, and to top it all off they’ve now lost best women’s player ever completely unnecessarily.

If Ron was still the coach I don’t think Tamika would be going home because of her “situation”.

I’m pissed they’ve granted the release instead of finding another solution.

I can’t imagine even the Tigers managing to screw themselves so badly as the Knights have here.

At least that is how it looks from the outside.
To lose Tamika is unforgivable, and the only thing saving the front office is the thin bones of information given about her departure.
It is extremely frustrating that the best player in the women’s game has walked.
It just doesn’t seem to happen with other teams, but it seems to be business as usual with the Knights.
It is really hard being a supporter of this team at times!
