Jenkins was going to play but told coach he has givin him no confidence to be able to play this weekend so he told the coach he isn’t playing..

May I add my personal opinion? I am not sure what Adam O’Brien is Is thinking in regards to picking call McCarthy obviously he has been going well but we need our best team on the park this weekend. Our season is on the line. We need to be picking up best available 1 to 17. I also may that Moicedreke and Davy Armstrong would be better options. I also feel that they add better strike power to our squad that we need but obviously Knights aren’t able to put the mind games to bed and when we really need to put our best 17 on the field

Funny McCarthy is not on the team list on the Knights website
 
They originally just copied and pasted last weeks team but McCarthy was always in #22 on the official NRL list. Knights have updated theirs now as well.

Even if Jenkins is unhappy not sure turning down a first grade jersey is a wise move in his position. No guarantee he'll get many more of those chances given what he's shown so far.

Potential wise he is, but let's not forget he is a 19/20 year old who has only been in an elite system for 1 and a half years.
He's the same age as Fletcher Sharpe, but Sharpe was playing the 2022 Flegg grandfinal while McCarthy was playing bush footy.
 
Don’t necessarily disagree with the ‘play your best team’ argument but;

- Armstrong is a fringe first grader who hasn’t played any centre in his Knights career at least, would get sent into orbit trying to tackle Jesse Ramien and also still looked to be carrying a knee injury last week
- Moceidreke is a fringe squad member who has played all 53 of his QLD/NSW Cup games on the wing
- Shifting Marzhew or Sharpe to accommodate either of the above would also mean picking a centre who has no experience playing centre

So I don't know how anyone can confidently say they're safer options.

I don’t have much optimism for this season regardless of how this week goes so I’m happy to see someone who possibly has a future here get a run, in a position he actually has experience playing in.
 
McCarthy would be the same age and same standard as Maps was when he debuted 2 years ago.
Maps went OK.

It’s probably just not just Obrien even though he might be a massive part of the issue

Check this forum, any of the ones on Facebook and probably even Jenkins Instagram or any other players and see the harassment that players get after an ordinary game

I’m sure the fact that he hasn’t been chosen ahead of Lucas,Cant & Maps has put him in a bad head space also

Possibly tapped on shoulder by O’Sullivan also

But sometimes NRL fans not just knights but all fans will hammer players and who knows what that does to their mental health and confidence

Let’s be realistic, we are no chance for finals.
We have been playing like a bottom 4 side now for weeks.
What is pleasing is that they are giving a few young blokes a go, even allowing for their shortcomings.. I hope young McCarthy gets a go and shows us what he can do. Hopefully he may even surprise us like Armstrong and Sharpe have.
 
Wow really feel for the kid, I agree with what’s been said it being a combination of things. he has been getting torn to shreds on social media (Facebook Insta etc) by people who don’t have any clue.

Good luck to AOB in the player market moving forward who’d want to to come here when things like this pop up
