NRL Round 24 - Sharks V Knights - 4:05pm Sunday 18 August - PointsBet Stadium, Sydney.

He seems to be spending half his game time at centre - if only we needed a centre:rolleyes:
Why not get him to play centre all the time, right would be best as Gags is getting on, don’t need Mapalangi, Jenkins and don’t know about Schiller from Raiders, would we need him and we have some promising centres a couple of years from being ready, seems a no brainer.

If the club wasn't sending Hastings a message that he is no longer part of our future plans, then having him at 14 is a no brainer. He'd offer probably what Elliot offered yesterday in attack, if not more. If he doesn't have to take kicks and take control of the entire attack he'll do well.
He can’t defend like Elliot does in the middle. I thought he was one of our best yesterday.

He won't have to, he'd be spelling Elliot and be a back up half, or hooker. Elliot was one of our best yesterday, but where has that link up play been all season? He needs to be alot more consistent. He has been a large part of the problem this season, and has had his lapses in defence as well.

He was terrible. 8 runs. 74mtrs. 16 tackles 5 missed. 1 error. You need more then that from your back 5 to help out forwards. You've gotta go looking for the ball.
Disagree I thought he was good defensively. He only let in the one try. He was solid. Scored his first try for the club. For a player down in confidence he had a good game.

I also saw Crossland do a lot of cleanup work in defence on that side.

Solomona Faataape had 9 tackle breaks so maybe I was wrong about maps. However he also gave valentine holmes and absolute bath last week also. He seems to be pretty destructive when given decent ball.

Stats are in for reserve grade.
Hastings topped the tackle count with 42 and did 28 runs for 240 metres in 80 minutes at lock.
Oddly, he only had 3rd best fantasy points (63) behind 20 year old prop Jaxson Rahme (67) and Riley Jones (65).

For those interested in 18 year old prop Cody Hopwood - his first game of seniors - he came off the bench for 18 minutes and did 4 runs for 50 metres and made 17 tackles. He had 26 post contact metres, so over half the big boy's metres were post contact.
I think they have gone backwards since Hastings came in 2 weeks ago. His stats read ok, but the team was humming and now look clunky and unorganised. Both him and Price are playing more for themselves than the team IMO Billy.

Reserve grade have been hot and cold all year. They have beaten some of the best sides and lost to some of the worst.
There home record has been pretty good though, so a bad loss at home was unexpected.

Brodie Jones would still be a better centre than Maps, even with all that muscle he is carrying now.
Pryce would be a better centre than both of them imo. Super talented footballer who's been tasked with and judged on his efforts as an NRL half when he is almost definitely a fullback. And probably just as capable at centre if put there.

If we can manage to get a win against Sharks, we're in with a decent opportunity to make the 8. We have a very decent schedule to finish out the season, especially after this game. I think it may come down to us and the Dragons, for that 8th position. Dolphins have a difficult schedule to finish, having to play Bulldogs (A), Storm (A), Broncos (H), Knights (A). Dragons schedule is pretty good though and we likely need to hope they drop a game against titans or sharks.

The Dragons are the only team around that have a worse points difference. Could prove to be important.

Thought he got injured, part made a tackle, fell off, Crosslands cleaned up and Maps ran back to position showing a bit of discomfort but to his credit played on.
Don’t think he will get extension based on past injury situation and hasn’t shown much during his stay.
We have Jenkins, unfortunately signed for next year and Tuala is more likely for extension
