NRL Round 24 - Sharks V Knights - 4:05pm Sunday 18 August - PointsBet Stadium, Sydney.

Obvious that Jenkins and AOB haven't mixed well this season, the issue there may be on behalf of either the former or the latter, likely a combination of both. I certainly respect Jenkins ability to be honest about his current frame of mind, especially for a guy in his current career position.

Moceidreke got dropped to the real NRL and honestly looked very average against the better teams in that comp, a bloke not making the grade by 24 years old despite being around NRL squads for the last 4-5 years and being extremely physically gifted is quite the red flag. The NRL late bloomers that are often guys who either physically developed late or were missed by various junior squads on the way up - Mocei is neither as 6'6 outside back who was a regular for multiple different junior sides coming up.

McCarthy is obviously a kid the club rates highly and he must be consistently putting in the hard yards to facilitate the meteoric rise he's experienced over the last 2 years. Far from the finished product but someone with a ceiling to play regular NRL and presumably the work ethic to match. Baptism of fire to take on an in-form Ramien/Katoa pairing alongside Greg but we've thrown a few in the deep end this year with pretty good results up to this point.

Don’t necessarily disagree with the ‘play your best team’ argument but;

- Armstrong is a fringe first grader who hasn’t played any centre in his Knights career at least, would get sent into orbit trying to tackle Jesse Ramien and also still looked to be carrying a knee injury last week
- Moceidreke is a fringe squad member who has played all 53 of his QLD/NSW Cup games on the wing
- Shifting Marzhew or Sharpe to accommodate either of the above would also mean picking a centre who has no experience playing centre

So I don't know how anyone can confidently say they're safer options.

I don’t have much optimism for this season regardless of how this week goes so I’m happy to see someone who possibly has a future here get a run, in a position he actually has experience playing in.
Took words out of my mouth. Genuine centre options are pretty slim right now after Myers also left.

Other FG options just won't work. So good luck to the young lad, he's had some great attacking highlights this yr and hopefully likes of Gamble and/or Crossy do there job on inside for him.

Agreed my optimism is non existent, I didn't even get remotely excited about Tigers, but I will say with the likes of Hastings, KP Brails not being on form or injured for majority of year team has done solid effort to still be in running.

I think a few people have got the rough tap on shoulder and may get forced to leave or play lower grades, its never nice, but It's clear if we want to try be a premiership threat with KP still around we need to make big changes at 7 and 9. We have a WONDERFUL CROP OF JUNIUORS COMING THROUGH AND WE NEED TO PAVE THE WAY FOR THEM IN THE COMING YEARS.

Sorry excuse the caps, just saw that, but can't be effed deleting and re-writing.

If AOB had not messed with Jenkins head, he would be in a fit state to play, he is under contract for next year. It’s bad player management
Sounds like pro sport might not be for him.
People carried on about him still getting picked week after week, he gets dropped and needs to earn a call up again, seems aob is damned if he does damned if he doesnt.
Serious though What sort of "confidence" from the coach does this guy need to turn up and do the same job his been doing the last few months, i think getting a callup shows abit of confidence no?

I think if we make the 8 we will be taking some good confidence going into the finals. If we make it we have to be doing something right. Right?

Hopefully Braddy and Jsaf will be back, which will strengthen our squad. And we do have arguably one of the best players at FB.

This game, I say is probably the toughest game. The rest are all very winnable for us.

correct, at the moment anything AOB does will have the firing squad chasing him!

Just seems like an unfortunate situation all round with Jenkins. AOB maybe hasn’t handled it the best, but also not a great reaction from a player who should be chomping at the bit to get a chance in first grade. If he’s struggling mentally then I certainly sympathise with that and he has my full support.

The criticism has been OTT for five games played out of position on the wing for a side that was struggling at the start of the season. Coming in for Dom Young was pretty big boots to fill, as well. And remember he only had six games of first grade under his belt when he came here. I hope he rebounds and gets another chance in the future.

Jenkins was being offered the poison chalise if he came into centre in a must win game.
If we win, we won despite him - if we lost, all his fault.
No pressure on McCarthy - if we win, he's made a name for himself and launched his career, if we lose, he needs another pre-season and maybe to go back to Flegg to finish out the year.

You’ve put that perfectly, especially if he has been given the tap on the shoulder protecting his value moving forward

Could you look at it the other way also, opportunity to improve your value by playing well. That fear of failure shows he doesn't believe in what he has to offer. Yes the environment isn't working for him but you don't forget how to tackle, work as a unit hit holes etc etc.

Having Best and Jsaf out hurts us. Big job for McCarthy and Marzhew. Hopefully Crossland can do a similar job as he did against the tigers in defence.
