NRL Round 23 - Knights Vs Panthers - 6:00pm Friday 8th August - McDonald Jones Stadium

Hunt was bad in defence tonight, but he has some good defensive moments as well. He'd likely not be in the centres but for injuries. He's young, if coachable, he would not be the first young player who struggled defensively at the start of his NRL career, but got past it.

Has been struggling in D all along . Only a boy . Another preseason and a bit of muscle . He will be a handy 1st grader .

Hard to watch, just so many things we don't do at NRL standard. Effective tackling, decent kicks, fifth tackle options, bodies in motion, we just don't seem to be able to do any of it right. Every time Best got the ball he was swamped with defenders, just such a massive difference in effort and execution, embarrassing.

You can throw in how much harder these tip teams run as well

Schiller deserves another chance, he’s the only one in the team who gets punished for a rubbish 40 minutes.
Agreed. Did he make mistakes and miss some tackles? Yes. But it’s like he was thrown to the wolves for a bad performance or two (despite also showing genuinely great signs with the ball in hand).

There’s plenty of players in this team that also deserve to be dropped, yet never do.

How quiet is the crowd
We were just stunned at the ground.
Penrith were schooling us in every aspect of the game. There is a huge gap between the top 4-5 teams and the rest.
Tempers flared 2 rows in front of us as rival fans got into a punch up and broke the heartbreak of watching our team get suffocated.
Then came the rain….and boy did it rain!

Marzhew can not be selected next week.

He is a liability under the high ball,
Once he drops a couple his head drops and he tries to avoid going near the ball, leaving it for Best
His runs drop off in intensity after a few drops as well
He is very slow to turn and chase or to get back when a break has been made by the opposition

I know he’s not the only problem currently with this team, but his negatives now out way his positive's
The 2025 NRL is a hard master. Teams pick out weaknesses in the opposition and bombard the weakness. Marzhew dropped some balls, but caught as many as he dropped. He needs support around him which just hasn’t happened during his time at the Knights.

I was about two or three rows in front of them. So glad they got moved on.

Working so missed the game. What's the consensus on Arthur?
I thought he looked good, already showed signs of being better than Cogger or Gamble, poked his nose through the line a few times early looking for an offload and there was no one within cooee of him. I said to the missus, I don't think the guys are used to playing with a half that can break the line. Also put in a nice kick, but again. No one bothered chasing.

He also made a few poor decisions and turned the ball over but that's probably expected of a young half, but you can't say he wasn't trying things.

So was the string wind behind Penrith the first half? When we did kick-offs the ball was barely going to the 30mtr line. And Clearly kicking early, 40/20 with ease.

Yeah I find it hard to criticise the negatives in the last paragraph when the guy’s in a team getting smashed, where he’s operating with no space and no one else is really trying to create. That’s why they always say the forwards decide who wins and the backs by how much.

Leo Thompson
40mins
4 runs
28m
41tks 3 missed

We didn't have much ball, but 28m for a starting prop is bad.
After a few decent performances he was back to his regular 2024-25 self last night. That low percentage offload that we somehow got the ball back off showed where he’s at right now. Doesn’t give a ****.
