NRL Round 17 - Knights Vs Eels - 5:30pm Saturday 29th June - McDonald Jones Stadium

And for Jackson Hastings..

The bloke cant stay out of trouble since arriving at the club has numerous incidents.

No wonder has been shafted at all his clubs he is a nuisance.

Days looking numbered at the club he has only stayed for so long and gotten away with it due to their been no other solid options from other clubs.

I thought with his experience and working in the Penrith system he would have offered a lot more

He's been below average at every club he's ever been at, with the exception of being asked to do very little in a historically dominant side.
Before he landed at the Panthers, he couldn't even get a regular gig in the ESL.

This is no criticism of Cogger btw, he is what he is, but rather whoever thought getting rid of Clune and replacing him with Cogger was a good idea.

Who is going to pick up his big contract for 2025 though?

*huge depressing sigh*.

I have been from the start a big fan of Hastings. I did t care about the bull **** before that came with.

Really wanted it to be a success here.

It’s been obvious watching him on the field tbh. Absolute loose cannon.

Hastings is one of those cases where you roll the dice and it can work out in your favour, or not.
Worked out well last year. Not much at all this year.

I suppose we need a new half-back for next year cos Cogger sucks.

I do feel for him a bit in a way, for some reason he was given huge credit for a grand final Nathan Cleary won almost single-handedly, the expectations were way too high for him here from some.

But as you say, Clune absolutely dominated NSW Cup all of 2023, and we lost nothing when he came into first grade for Hastings. He apparently wanted to stay, as well. It was baffling that we showed him the door.

I thought at the start of the season that Cogger would end up back at the Panthers because he seemed to fit in well there, but I don’t think any other clubs would take him now.

Some really weird recruitment decisions there.

He's a flog, never liked the bloke and I think it's best he gets moved on.

Flog is harsh without knowing him. Clearly had a very difficult childhood that he still struggles with and has spoken about openly, and hasn’t done anything nearly as bad as many players running around who get applauded.

I see it as a shame really, he had all the talent in the the world as a 17/18 year old and has never been able to get out of his own way. He was a very important part of the only good Knights season in the past decade so wish him well assuming he does move on, and hope it doesn't get too messy on the way out.

With Hastings I think he needs to be managed uniquely to keep him in line, someone like Bennett would probably make him a star. He seemed to love Madge. Same could be said for Hetherington. both could be far better but have poor mindsets.
Unfortunately I don't think AOB seems to get the best out of some of our guys in the team environment. Yes he seems to develop players well but can't make good game plans or cant figure out how to make use of our talents, ie KP seems to be getting in the way of playmaking and halves, KPP offload hasn't been utilised all year, bench use seems strange at times, centres aren't getting early ball.

I said it in Round 7 Jacko will leave at the end of the year. Destined for Super League, no other nrl side will take him imo.

It's a bit of bugger that he's been a liability both on and off field as he was a key part of that great run last year.

Any self respecting club would be doing their utmost to poach a 7 from somewhere other than NSW or QLD Cup.

Can bet your life if Jacko isn't here in 25' the club will be running with the 'we have faith in our club and its systems to find a solution from within' chat during the preseason

His biggest problem seems to be self control (i.e. dumb penalties and being easily baited by oppositions) and that also then includes his inability to genuinely be a team player 100% of the time.

He's a bit like Klemmer in that way....that have all the talent to be an elite player but their ability to be a team player, play to a coach's instructions and quell that inner voice that makes them lose it, when somebody targets them or something doesn't go the way they want it to. It is a personality trait that has seen many of the best and most talented in the NRL, never reach their true capability.

The other thing we don't have, is that elite level 'player whisperer' in our coaching ranks who can manage these types of players to maximise their potential in a team sport (i.e. Bennett, Bellamy, etc.) - e.g. I couldn't see Cameron Munster being anywhere near as successful (due to some of these player traits) without Bellamy having been his long term coach
