Nrl Pre-Season Trials 2008 *ALL TRIAL RESULTS ~ First Post*

Well that could only be good news.

Though it sort of makes me wonder who would actually buy a jersey. I mean it's a just one off game, in a country were Rugby League isn't a well known sport.

NFL isn't too well known in Aus, but if they played a match there, I bet they'd sell a ton of jerseys.

id pay alot of money to see the colts or the patriots play. more than i would for any other sporting event

they had a game in the UK at Wembly this year and it was sold out

They had 500,000 applications for 80,000 seats for that game. It might be good to see how an Origin game would go down at Wembley. Logistically, it's not possible for Origin to be played here but I'd go.

Just a little update.. Leeds have defeated South 26-24.

Despite Souths being down 26-0 at halftime, they fell just short in the end.

There still seems to be no time, in any guides...

Souths beaten by Leeds 26-24 in US match
Sunday, January 27, 2008 - 8:29 AM

A vastly depleted South Sydney produced a stirring second-half comeback to lose 26-24 to English Super League champions Leeds in the Australia Day rugby league challenge in Jacksonville, Florida.

A full-strength Leeds team, including several Great Britain and New Zealand Test stars, scored five tries to lead 26-0 at halftime in the match played over four quarters at Hodges Stadium.

With the new Super League season due to start next week, Leeds was more match fit after three pre-season trials, while Souths were having their first run of the year.

The Rabbitohs didn't field up to nine of their leading players, including NZ Test representatives Nigel Vagana, Jeremy Smith, Roy Asotasi, David Faalogo and David Kidwell, plus Kangaroos star and prize recruit Craig Wing.

Regular first graders Nathan Merritt, Dean Widders and Scott Geddes also sat out the match, but the Australian outfit was still able to mount an impressive comeback in the second half.

Leeds opened the scoring through Great Britain hooker Matt Diskin after six minutes and led 12-0 at quarter time after a long distance try to NZ Test star Brent Webb, after a pass from Souths five-eighth Ben Rogers was intercepted by winger Lee Smith.

In the second quarter kicks from five-eighth Danny McGuire and Diskin set up a try to halfback Rob Burrow and GB Test centre Keith Senior also crossed as Leeds bolted to a 26-0 halftime lead.

Souths squandered some good scoring opportunities, but also let themselves down by committing too many turnovers.

While Leeds rested some players in the second half, the youthful Rabbitohs capitalised on improved ball retention to score four converted tries.

Converted tries to Rogers and hooker Isaac Luke cut the deficit to 26-12 at the final break.

The revival continued in the final quarter, with Eddie Paea scything thru the defence for the Rabbitohs' third try and replacement George Ndaira also crossing, with Luke and Ndaira adding conversions.

A crowd of around 12,000 included golfer Greg Norman, former NBA star Dennis Rodman, seven-time world women's surfing champion Layne Beachley and award winning actor and Souths co-owner Russell Crowe.

I agree, people love to get into things you know.

Broncos down Comets in trial

A YOUNG Brisbane Broncos outfit has come over the top of the Central Comets in the Queensland town of Theodore tonight.

A side made up of mostly under-20 eligible players were shocked to be behind 12-0 to the Comets after just 14 minutes, in a match NRL player Ben Hannant made a surprise cameo.

But after some adjustments by coach Anthony Griffin at the first-quarter break, the Broncos struck into gear.

Three tries in the second quarter had it level at 12-all at halftime, and after the break the Broncos, captained by Mick Roberts (pictured), went on with it for a 30-12 victory.

"I thought Ben Hunt was easily our best player, and another local Central Qeenslander Brendon Gibb went well also," said Griffin.

"This was our first real hit-out together, so to give away a start and be able to come back from that was a pretty strong effort."

Shannon Wood and Brent Williams had posted tries for the Comets early, with the Broncos not getting onto the board until the 26th minute.

That came when Gibb scored in the 26th minute after a bomb from one of the Broncos’ stars, halfback Hunt.

Will Tupou and then Alex Glenn scored before the break.

The Broncos got ahead in the 55th minute when Hunt ran into a hole off a nice ball from Palmer Wapau.

With 10 minutes remaining, and Hannant on the field, Tim Yee made it safe with a try that stuck the score out to 24-12.

Just before the final siren prop Guy Ford celebrated a return to his native area when he went over near the posts.

For the Broncos, man of the match Hunt was also well supported by Mitchell Dodds and Tupou.

The Broncos next match will be a full-scale NRL trial against the North Queensland Cowboys at Rockhampton’s Browne Park next Saturday.

BRONCOS 30 (B Gibb, W Tupou, A Glenn, B Hunt, T Yee, G Ford tries; L Samoa 3 goals) defeated CENTRAL COMETS 12 (S Wood, B Williams tries; N Bowman 2 goals).
