NRL General Recruitment and Retention

I’m wondering if the Bears and the Chiefs will be able to attract a quality squad. I’m not surprised the Dolphins hit the ground running. Already established club and location main reason they could attract quality almost straight away.

I mean Perth would be a bad place to live but you would still have to uproot your life and leave family and friends. Someone like Munster might take this into consideration.

PNG I’m even more worried about. Would living there be appealing? In a compound? Not sure but, I think these two new teams may struggle in the beginning and not have the same start as the Dolphins.

Time will tell with who they sign.

Both won't survive, that's for sure. And if one of them makes it work it'll be a massive struggle for at least 5 years.

When the Titans entered the comp there was so much more depth of talent in the game. And its the Gold Coast.

Dolphins, they had Bennett and got seriously lucky with Katoa. You'll never see anything like that again. And one might also make the argument that the Dolphins entrance into the comp has tested the limits of squad depth of talent across the NRL

Both the Bears and Cheifs are horrifically located. They dont have the resources or the fortuitous circumstances that the Dolphins benefited from. Honestly they're going to suck. And it'll be free points for the teams who play them

Credit to the Dolphins, they've done about as good a job as is possible in this day and age. And they still haven't managed a top eight finish, or to win more games than they've lost. When you consider that, it's pretty scary to think about how PNG in particular are going to go.

Perth will have a struggle, but I can at least see them eventually signing a few decent players and working their way up.

I think they should try a team in Perth. PNG I see they will have a great supporter base. But the weather is tropical! It will be hotter than Townsville. Or are they playing in Australia?

It's great for PNG to have a side but I would expect that they will run last every year for at least a few years. They'll struggle. But the first time they win a game will be a momentous occasion.

I think it's pretty much accepted that he's a dud coach and was appointed as a figurehead.
The bit I don't understand is why anyone associated with the bears thought players in this day and age give a **** about a bloke who retired 30 years ago and struggles to string a sentence together.
100%

Time will tell but the DCE signing is a shrewd move by the Roosters. They would be hoping the same outcome as with Cronks signing. I have them in my top 4 next year. Good forward pack. Nafayu White is an absolute weapon. He will be close to the best forward in the comp next season. Teddy is still playing well, Crighton, Toia, strike everywhere. Throw DCE in that team they will be hard to beat.

DCE will be 37 before a ball is kicked. Reynolds dropped off a cliff last season at 35. Whereas Ben Hunt also 35 seemed to have at least another year in him. Although, Hunts' Mrs is a nutritionist, so perhaps that helps.

At 37, there are no guarantees. Based on what I saw last year DCE's form came off a fair bit. Won't be surprised if he provides the Roosters what they need but I also won't be surprised to see him struggle to look anything like he player he was in year previous

Hey seems fit. I think the earlier decision to move hampered his focus and also an affect team. In hindsight I think he should have kept his contract stuff under wraps till the end of the season.

Didn’t you hear he only signed with them 2 weeks ago 😂 like DCE how stupid do you think we all are. I’m sure there was a contract in play my boi

Yeah had a good laugh at this too. Worst kept secret and most obvious lie going hand in hand.

Is Keaon Koloamatangi worth more than a $1mil a year? Dragons and Eels chasing him. 4-5 year deal. Although my mind was somewhat eased from DB pac champs performance, I think in the long run we paid that money on a spine player. There’s not many forwards that you would pay a million + for.

Roosters are interested as well

At a struggling club I’d pay him 1 million flat but anything more is overkill, he’s probably worth more like 850-900

I’d say a big difference between DCE and Reynolds is Reynolds injury history. That would have played a major part in his form dropping, where DCE has basically never had an injury

I put DCE form dropping last year to him being unhappy at Manly with how he was treated by management. No one performs at their best if they are unhappy at work.

They have now lost Garrick for similar reasons

I think Roosters signing DCE was a great move, we got Sandon Smith. I also think DCE will work out well for them, not a premiership, but they will be up there

DCE is definitely holding his age better than Reynolds. Reyno forgot how to kick the ball straight half way through the season

I think he would be 750-850k surely, but a 1mil is probably pushing it a little to much.

He’s definitely better than Leo.
Actually a great point.

He is better than Leo. And yet, he isnt worth 900k, at all.

I think Leo's greatest asset is his consistency. His regular standard is quite high. The Bulldogs (fallaciously) figured a better system would reveal an even higher standard. And maybe they're right, but I dont think they are. Leo's max is about what we saw of him here
