NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS V CANBERRA RAIDERS - 4.05PM Sun 21st Aug - MJS Newcastle

Wow. All in all, I think the boys put in a good effort, particularly with the two late withdrawals, D-saf and Frizz. I was worried when those players were ruled out and were pleasantly surprised with the great first-half performance, particularly in attack.

But, in typical fashion, we capitulated. The players you thought were playing well in the first half turn to **** in the second. Clune, Hoy, Milford, I point out. I think on Clune that knee injury of his has really hampered his game. He was quite fast and could see that in the first two games of the season. But unfortunately, the injury slowed him up and has affected his overall game, cause he relied on that speed.

Our forwards played well, particularly missing the two starters. But we are missing leadership, a voice, and halves to close out games.
Really impressed by Mapalangi, defended really well and has a spark in attack. He will be putting his hand up for a center position next year.

Just drove past all the fans leaving the stadium, how long do they continue to turn up and empty wallets for this club.

I haven't for two years now, next year will be 3...

You see every time that we play well as the other side didn't show up, there's not much point in discussing it with you. You just see negatives every single time.
Where exactly were the positives after 80 minutes James?

You are entitled to feel optimistic and hopeful

And I'm entitled to feel dread and hopelessness every week as that's all these blokes deliver.

Negative results.

2001 is a very long time between drinks my friend

You don't think we had a great first half? You were very quiet then.

Only lost by 6 vs a decent side when we've lost heaps of games by a lot at home this season, so obviously an improvement with a lot of players out and some at the last minute. We were always going to tire in the second half given that, just couldn't quite hold on.

The first 40 minutes were positive, the fact we didn't get pumped is another positive, we were competitive with a team missing quite a few top players, also the debutants had good games.

Yeah too many glass half full types here who need to find positives and lie to themselves it's sad really to live in denial and be optimistic for these blokes
Being optimistic is the opposite of sad though. It's not delusion. It's seeing the positive aspects rather than focusing solely on the negative. If you want to be a pessimist, that's fine, but others are entitled to find what joy they can from watching the team that they support.

But I'm not allowed to see it as it is?

The results show we are a basket case of a club.

Was it a better performance?

Yes!

Does it count after 80 minutes?

Nope!

I'm all for being critical where it's due, but today isn't really the day. The starting backrow were literally Croker, Sue and Jones. D Saifiti out from covid, Frizell pulled up injured in the warm up. I'd say we were about as good as the squad we named to be honest.
