Mathews and Ball 2024

36 - 26 up in Ball with 1 minute to go - Votano has scored a try and kicked 6/6
  • Connor Votano 0'
  • Cody Hopwood 8'
  • Wilson De Courcey 17'
  • Harley Walker 33'
  • Noah Sefo 44'
  • Wilson De Courcey 58'

we seem to have been left out of the highlights clips for Ball and Gale - both would have been good to watch.

Tarsha Gale highlights finally up - Knights at 4.43
2 try assists to Evie Jones and 1 to Lilly White so they made a big difference.
We only scored 2 tries where either Jones or White didn't throw the last pass, but one of them came after a long backline movement that involved both White and Jones.

Great to see the class we hear about these two was on display. Couple nice slick plays off the scrum too. Awesome to see.

There's a clear path to first grade with Gagai off-contract and being 34 years old when next season kicks off, will be interesting to watch the internal battle between the young centres across grades this year. Wouldn’t be surprised if Wilson De Courcey leapfrogs the older options based on his early season highlights.

There will be plenty of competition - Falemoe, Aoake, McCarthy and Myers could all be fighting for Flegg and reserve grade spots this year. I'd keep all of them if we had spots for them.

Big game in Ball.
St George are top of the table, but they have a 2 point win over 6th placed Penrith and easy wins over last and second last.
They are very beatable, and if results go our way we could jump as high as second place, but we were already missing Linnane and Malachi Smith, and Jermaine McKewn is out this week as well. You could argue those are our 3 most important players. All 3 had a firstgrade preseason and were looking strong.

Yeah be nice to know whats up with Melachi and McEwen. There is another McEwen named this week on there bench. Will need massive games from Brock, Hopwood and Hillar. But they did it last week against Magpies who have a fancied team apparently.

There's another McEwen in Hmatts on bench for first time. Matthew McEwen, no idea if related though.

Yeah 3 McEwen siblings at the club. Matthew was in Andrew Johns Cup last year and Evah is in Tarsha Gale Cup this season, scored a try last week.

McEwan was suspended from the Bulldogs game for a high shot. I was at the game and he was placed on report for a big front on hit that was only slightly too high. He is a beast and terrorises the opposition. Has NRL written all over him.

Must have got a couple weeks for it, shame. agreed he is goijg to banging down the door in a season or so. Destructive backrower something we really need. Keen to see how Matty McEwen goes, Evah has been a stand out this yr in Tarsha Gale. Could get herself an NRL development if one available. She's turning out to be as dominant as Evie and Lilly-Anne White

Attending the last 2 home games the players that have impressed;

Harold Matthews:
Fletcher Somerville - hard running centre, strong defender.
Diesel Hagan - smart, hard working hooker with game smarts.

SG Ball:
Fletcher Hunt - clever ball playing 5/8, good kicking game and strong defender. He was playing first grade for Nyngan last year, so coming back to age football poses few problems for him. Could easily play lock and has future utility value.
Cody Hopgood - great physique for a 17/18 year old (playing a year up), tall and physically strong. Always punches through the line, has very good leg speed and good footwork. Has an offload as well. Looks a great prospect.

Yeah Hopwood was \OZ schoolboys last season and a real prospect, along with Hilliar. Think Hopwood will be having a NRL preseason next yr for sure

Sorry meant Hopwood. Hilliar has also been impressive, good charges through the centre of the ruck and has a good work rate.
