Knights Injury and Suspension Updates

Lisfranc injuries are caused by trauma to the foot. The most common cause these days is car accidents.

I can’t remember hearing about any other rugby league players who have had them,

k

Edrick Lee?
I thought about him, his injury was never reported as being a Lisfranc injury but he was injured for a very long time.

We don’t get full details of these injuries. Lisfranc injuries can include broken bones and ligament injuries. The way Ponga was walking around after the game, his injury can’t have not been too bad.

Corey Horsburgh had one last year I think. Can be a common injury for people who weight bear and step hard then accelerate hard. Ask me how I know........😥

Also a bit of confusion/misrepresentation around Lisfranc injuries.
Lisfranc often referred to a fracture and/or dislocation involving the foot tarsal bones and the metatarsals.
Lisfranc injury is now a term used to describe the damage to the ligaments that stabilise that joint. Doesn’t need to be a fracture or dislocation.

So there’s a pretty wide spectrum of injury severity when we hear Lisfranc injury.

Traditionally, an isolated injury to the ligaments may have been termed a sprained foot, leading to less reported incidents of “Lisfranc”.
Now, we want to give everything a fancy name.

I don’t think it’s a matter of giving fancy names, it’s more everyday folk are using correct terminology. With so much information/knowledge freely available and extensive reporting, the average footy fan (and people in general) are so much more educated and exposed to a wide variety of information.

Only downfall is we are all now all experts hahaha

When I went to school, Lisfranc fracture was one of the types of broken bones we had to learn.

So Ponga only has a sprain?
That explains why they are saying he's a chance to play again this year.
A Lisfranc fracture is 5 or 6 months minimum.

Jacques Lisfranc de St. Martin was a French doctor during the Napoleonic Wars. He pioneered treatment of Lisfranc injuries, they commonly occurred when French Cavalry men were knocked off their horses while their foot was still in the stirrups. He used to amputate the front of the foot, so the foot would not collapse.

Traditionally Lisfranc injuries involved fractures and ligament damage.

These days I hobble around with arthritis in both feet 🙁. Step hard & accelerate hard? . Oh well at least there is no risk of a Lisfranc injury . Glass half full 😂
You should buy yourself some Hoka Bondi 8 shoes, they are designed for people with arthritic feet. My podiatrist recommends them, they have helped me and they aren’t that expensive.

OK, so Ponga already had one on the other foot. He's referred to as our 6 million dollar man, are we making him bionic?

This was my understanding too. I had only ever heard it in the context of “Lisfranc fracture”.
Alot of the literature supports this (I guess it’s not overly exciting to publish articles about sprains when you can be discussing complex fracture dislocations). The term is often used more to describe isolated ligamentous injury in physiotherapy articles than it is orthopaedics and radiology which predominantly focus on the fracture/dislocation end of the spectrum.

I knew these players were resilient and had good surgeons/full time physio/recovery, but I couldn’t understand how they were getting them back so quick.

Twigged when a few articles specifically mentioned “foot sprain”.

So yeh, could be a sprained ligament (which again have a range of grading) or a fracture and dislocation with completely ruptured ligaments.

Big difference in the severity of one extreme to the other.

Feet are something you really don’t appreciate the intricacies of, until you have issues and realise the stress they undergo every day.

Thanks Lefty , you are right . Had to retire early ten years ago . Podiatrists always recommended new balance ? . A friend advised her Dr recommended Hoka . That was four years ago . Feet are still rubbish but as long as I have them on can do most things with in reason including an hr lake walk every morning . Would thoroughly recommend Hoka to any mature person on here 😀

It’s called a spit ball muppet, learn what it means.

What does he have? He is good in the air and what? he is literally a clone of Corey Oates.

He is about what 6’3, judging from seeing him next to McCarthy, What’s he weigh? 92-95kg? Literally bigger than Leo, McEwen and ESL in height he just needs to muscle up (two of which were being spoken about transitioning to prop)

I also mentioned lock you failed to mention that one

I’d have De Coursey ahead of him right now, he looks like a future rep player and Hunt certainly doesn’t have that potential, I know we like to glaze juniors so Hunt will get a lot of leeway on here than people like Schiller and all that but I haven’t seen a single thing other than he is a threat under the high ball.

Mean while De Coursey has shown he is very fast for his size, incredibly strong and yet agile, he is literally a taller Bradman that can play wing, but lets keep the guy who can catch the ball well…
Just wondering if you can name two players in the last five years, that could catch a high ball. Not counting Young. When you finish counting, let us know how many tries they happened to score. Seeing as you keep saying we don't attack the kick. That is why Hunt was given a go because he had a go.
