KP’s offer from the Dolphins was as big or bigger and it was the chance to play under the most successful coach (in terms of premierships) in the history of the sport. Also it turns out the Dolphins had a pretty big pre-existing fan base and they also basically hoovered up every footy fan in Brisbane who doesn’t like the Broncos seemingly, they’ve been a rousing success. It’s not like he picked us over Wests or the Titans. He picked a smaller club with a less credentialed coach.

I agree, but on what metric are we a smaller club than the Dolphins?
Brisbane a capital city . More third parties easily . Was talk he would be the face of the Dolphins .

I'm just glad that we are finally surrounding KP with a squad capable of helping him achieve success. It would be a travesty for him to spend his whole career (albeit very well remunerated) in a middling team, which is what we were for those first few years. CBM can't even pipe up and ridicule Parr (Soz, CBM), but he does seem to be doing a pretty impressive job with the roster. Today's trial demonstrated that.
The whole club seems settled, united and quietly confident in what they are doing. I really hope the next few years are memorable ones for us tragics.

I get that. But they are clearly the second team in that market. He is and can be the face of Newcastle for as long as he likes.

I guess it’s arguable atm, but Brisbane is such a big market and their competition isn’t as popular as most supposed (still resentment for how they basically destroyed the Queensland comp IMO).
It doesn’t really mean anything outside of, your success is a bigger deal in a smaller market. Penrith are one of the smallest clubs for example. And they’re a juggernaut.

Again though, I wouldn't call Penrith one of the smallest clubs. They were back in the day, but today? A massive (and growing) catchment, juniors for days, a leagues club chock full of pokies ripping money out of their members. Absolute juggernaut. One of the NRL's smallest clubs?

He's taken a leap in his personal growth over the last 12-18 months. It shows in what he focuses his energy on. He realises now that anything less than 100% effort each and every game, on and off the pitch, is just a sad and inevitably regretful existence. Some players (and men) never get there. It took him a while but this version of Ponga is here to stay

Saw him crying when interviewed after the Canberra final . 30,000 fans screaming his name name Seemed totally overwhelmed . Yeah I thinks he knows he has it good & he gets us
So many good things to take out of the game. All of the off season purchases looked like they belonged there and it was interesting to see Parr sitting on the sidelines. I personally think many of the new recruits outshone some of our regular first graders from last year.

Says he has a career average of 75.37% but in his current kicking stint, which started with the Bulldogs game last year, he is kicking at 81.5%.
Says he is enjoying kicking and is practicing every day.
Says the change in kicking coach from Berrick Barnes to Halligan has helped him. Ponga is quoted as saying Halligan doesn't give him too much to work on at a time or "bombard him with information" but slowly chips away at it. Ponga likens it to playing golf in terms of mindset and consistency.
You can't argue with the results, but it sounds like a lot to just kick a ball.
