Kalyn Ponga discussion

Was our best on field I thought. He just looked so silky and threatening every time he touched the footy. Him and Pearce’s combo will just get better each week. So glad he’s in the red and blue.

Obviously he's going to be a freak with the ball in hand but what pleased me most was how involved he got. In both attack and defence he was everywhere.

The playmaking on the left side of the field is what he practised all off season.
The long pass he threw to Ross was one of the practised moves.
I don't think Moga played his part as well as Cory Denniss was doing in the opposed sessions though.
In the opposed sessions Ponga was going to the line with the ball in hand with Fitzy looking for a gap on one side of him and Cory Denniss doing the same on the other side, and at the line Ponga would either decide to step himself or pass to Fitz or Cory, or throw a long pass to Ross if all the defence had compressed to cover those 3. It worked a treat in training, but it didn't look like Moga was running with Ponga like Denniss did.
The best part of his performance yesterday was that he handled the pressure from being targeted without any slip ups. If he had made one or two errors, the Raiders next week would be targeting the hell out of him again - so getting through well was a great start.

I have always thought he is a freakish talent.I will put my hand up and say i was one of the doubters in regards to if he was physically and mentally strong enough for first grade yet.
He really impressed me with his strength both in defence and attack and his willingnes to put his body on the line. He is still a kid and only going to get stronger. I am still suprised at how he went first game in.

Agreed, my line of thought too, maws the expecting such a strong and mature performance

"before we get too excited".

Be honest the kid is a pure 100% excitement machine. Of course he will make an error or two but that is part of the learning curve.

Make no mistake though, he's a natural ball player. He didn't learn how to have vision in 1 off season.
