Jake Clifford

I know plenty on here love to give it to Drinky, but he’s been sensational this afternoon. Been in everything. Cowboys looking solid.

Sounds like the missing piece of the puzzle could be Brooks, Brooks to cowboys and cowboys release Clifford.. The article mentioned Tigers considering releasing Brooks from his contract early but doesn't say if that's before the deadline or at the end of the year when they can have a crack at Reynolds.

He showed why so many have such big wraps on him. He’s got all the tools. Still needs to get his hands on the ball more, but he’ll improve us next year just by making our end of sets better and being a link man who allows Pearce & Ponga a bit more space.

Crossland and Clifford could make a good combination in the same way Crossland and Madden were so good for years.
Crossland is the high workrate, high involvement, high enthusiasm guy with a long kick, good speed and good defence, but not really a schemer who comes up with a lot of try assists or much of an organiser. Both Madden and Clifford are all about the 5th play options and organising the attack - but don't really get stuck into the hard work.

Clifford did hard work aplenty last night.

Clifford at 7 and Pearce to 6 where he can run more and kick less looks ideal. Loved those huge bombs he put up last night you just knew they would be dropped at some time

I'm assuming from the comments Clifford played well last night?
How was his defence?
Pearce at 6 could work he is a big body that loves to run (especially on the 5th). Would free Pearce's game if he had a half to take care of the end of sets.

Made 23/25 tackles for 92% efficiency. Not bad considering those 2 missed tackles were a small portion of the Cowboys’ overall 43 missed tackles. Of what I saw he was constantly up getting his hands dirty.

Doesn’t really matter what numbers are on their backs. Maloney wore #6 when he & Pearce played together at the Roosters and they very much split the duties of the 6 & 7 between them fairly evenly in a lot of ways rather than playing in the more distinct traditional organising halfback + attacking five-eighth contrast you see re: Reynolds/Walker or Cleary/Luai. Clifford will probably wear the 6 as the junior half of the duo & transition to playing as a 7 down the line beside Ponga, Hoy or someone else.
