Jackson Hastings

Not sure how much value I put in Batemans view given the way he treated the Raiders. Does not seem like a team first sought of bloke, personally think his massively overrated. Whitehead has always been the superior player.

Yeah I get a vibe he’s a bit of a marmite guy. He has good friends at previous clubs (Kai Pearce Paul comments on his Insta all the time for example), and it’s no shock that he butted heads with a guy who is himself someone that other blokes love or hate in John Bateman.
Yep who is a younger fella who Horo is adamant Jacko has no respect or is ill fated toward the younger gen coming through. Clear strike 1 to Horo.

Had a conversation at the ground Sunday after the initial dust-up and came to this conclusion.

It's one thing to be extremely harsh on your teammates if you're a Joey, Jordan, Brady-type figure. Think it plays differently if you've had what can only be described as a middling career to date.

Reminds me a bit of the discussion on Twitter a couple of years ago as The Last Dance doco came out. If you own a car dealership, using clips from the doc to explain "this is why I scream at my underperforming employees #winnersmindset"' is incredibly misguided. "I'm a manager at a coffee shop, and I never accept less than a perfect attitude from the other employees" 🙄

Everything I've heard from Hastings I like, and I'm very happy he's at the club. But it can't be argued that he's left most of his previous jobs having put out most people there. That's my best guess as to why.
This too.

I’m sure him speaking his mind at Wests didn’t go down well because, well, who does he think he is? Andrew Johns.

Any damage to his reputation is likely to be mitigated by what he said likely being pretty obviously true though. Yes, it’s an insult to pick Brooks at 7 over him. Yes, on the evidence so far they shouldn’t have fired Madge (and from everything I’ve heard the Tigers management were undermining his attempts to impose discipline at every turn).

Make him feel needed, wanted and important, and I’m sure he’ll be good for us. By this stage unless he’s an idiot he knows this is the last stop for him and there’s not a “bigger” or more successful club chomping at the bit to make him their main man in the halves if he wears out his welcome with us.

In the short term if he can provide direction on the field, space for our strike players and set standards at training and on the field defensively, and in the medium to long term fill that #7 jersey until - with the greatest respect to his abilities - we hopefully develop an elite young halfback to take his place, then his signing can be a great thing for the club.

Yeah he's a real **** bloke for wanting to see his daughter when travel was stopped during COVID.

He made the decision to move half way across the world. Fair enough about wanting to see his daughter but the timing and the way it come out speaks volumes bout the kind of bloke he is.

I'll be surprised if he sees out his contract at the west kittens.

Per Fox Sports Lab, Jackson currently sits equal 6th in the NRL for total try involvements (tries + try assists + try contributions. Fox are a bit funky with what they call an ‘assist’ and what they call a ‘contribution’, but I tend to prefer their take to the NRL . com approach where they only ever count the last touch before the try as an ‘assist’ - when often the work of the man inside the guy who threw the final pass was way more important).

1st. Cleary (15 in 5 games)
2nd. S Johnson (14 in 6 games)
3rd. Walsh (13 in 5 games)
4th. Ilias, A Reynolds (12 in 6 games)
6th. W Kennedy (11 in 5 games); Hastings, L Mitchell, Tabuai-Fidow (11 in 6 games)

That’s a pretty fair start to the season for a guy known more as an organiser than anything else.

Lachie Miller in equal 15th with 9 in 6 games.

I wonder where Gamble was before Ponga took his spot.

8 total try involvements in the 5 games he got with KP out. I don’t know where that would have placed him. A bit behind Lachie I guess.

Does that mean his injury is sorted now? I remember him mentioning in some interview his ankle or leg was injured from a hip drop and its been permanently effected. He has to play with the injury. Maybe Ponga needs to practice goal kicking also.

Yeah, just a bit injured, it was broken last year. There's screws in there now that are still causing aggravation it was reported.

I don’t understand why Ponga doesn’t kick. Hastings says a fortnight ago he can’t put enough time into goalkicking because of numbness in his leg. This week he is kicking goals.

Yeah I also reckon KP is the most naturally good at it. If they all went 6 months without practicing, I would expect KP to win the ensuing kicking contest. So I’d say if he’s not kicking, it’s because he doesn’t want to.

I guess he hasn’t had much time to practice it either with all his other dramas. He might think as captain it’s more important he’s back in the huddle rather than lining up a kick at goal.
