Jackson Hastings

Just had chance to watch the Hastings interviews and the background story. I've got to say I am impressed with the attitude, the maturity, the self-awareness but most of all his sense of what this club was built on and what the fans deserve...what I see and hear is something he will bring that hasn't been there for a while - respect for the jersey and those that have come before him.

I'd expect the 'old boys' would be glad to hear somebody like him talking the way he does about what he gets about this place.

Yes, it will be about performances on the field and him playing his role in those performances...but his focus is on the team achieving and he clearly recognises that playing for each other is ultimately what will get the job done and he is happy to contribute and drive that culture.

In truth, Horrie Hastings was an average talent for a footballer but he was hard as nails, tenacious, played for his team mates, played to the strengths he had and could go harder for longer than just about anybody else on the paddock - he didn't win those half back of the year awards because he was the most skilled or talented but he is the sort of bloke everybody would say they wanted next to them in the trenches when the $h!t hits the fan....on that basis I think Jackson is just what this place needs to find it's soul again and bring back that Newcastle spirit and pride in the jersey that has been missing for so long.

Brilliantly written and I for one couldnt agree more!
Not a fan at all of the Debbie-downers on here bagging him and our other new recruits out even before they've thrown a ball in anger. Way not to get behind your team guys.
I for one will be supporting my team, not keyboard heroing my vengeance on people that are willing to put their bodies literally on the line in the name of my (our) beloved Newcastle Knights.
Fan stands for fanatical supporter. The important word in that phrase being "supporter".
How about we all support our team and the new players?! It's what we've always been about, one town, one team, one passion, one dream.

I recently saw a clip of James Graham talking about reports that Jackson hasting is a ā€œdifficultā€ person and ā€œtoo intenseā€.
He then describes himself as a difficult person and that you need those difficult people within an organisation so that it challenges those around you and raises the standard. Hopefully he brings that intensity to our club and doesn’t let anyone just cruise along.

Exactly what the Knights need.

Hastings already my favourite player

It may be wishful thinking but I reckon Hastings will be remembered as one of the best signings the club has ever made ie signed from another club as an established first grade player.
Others would be Ben Kennedy, Michael Hagan, Aiden Guerra, Beau Scott, Matt Parsons etc.
Of course Junior was an important signing, but failed to meet expectations.
I get the feeling Hastings is going to be a very important player and leader for us , something that was sorely lacking this year.

I saw this mentioned in another thread but did anyone else see what Justin Horo have to say about Hastings?
He called him a lemon and a **** Hunt especially to younger players. He also called him out on being fake Hunt in front of the cameras.

F this f that....lemon....blah blah blah. Horo is an opinionated idiot. Will is just will. Kemp is the real gentleman here. Shame about his career.

Hastings has made serious enemies at every club he's ever been at, so something is definitely up, but he gets the benefit of the doubt at the knights until things go south

Hopefully he has learnt from the conflicts he has had in the past and ge will not have issues here.

Michael Jordan has also been labelled as a ā€œjerkā€ and ā€œbad teammateā€ but he is one of the greatest athletes of all time and the goat of Basketball… so yeah I’d say it doesn’t matter as long as you back it up.

Although I think Hastings just has to carry a bad rep from his Roosters and Manly days.

I do believe he has changed for the better, he had no problems in England and Tim sheens is just a sad old man so of course he try’s to damage Hastings reputation further. I mean I’d be sad too if Luke Brooks was my starting halfback.

Had a conversation at the ground Sunday after the initial dust-up and came to this conclusion.

It's one thing to be extremely harsh on your teammates if you're a Joey, Jordan, Brady-type figure. Think it plays differently if you've had what can only be described as a middling career to date.

Reminds me a bit of the discussion on Twitter a couple of years ago as The Last Dance doco came out. If you own a car dealership, using clips from the doc to explain "this is why I scream at my underperforming employees #winnersmindset"' is incredibly misguided. "I'm a manager at a coffee shop, and I never accept less than a perfect attitude from the other employees" šŸ™„

Everything I've heard from Hastings I like, and I'm very happy he's at the club. But it can't be argued that he's left most of his previous jobs having put out most people there. That's my best guess as to why.

True. If you write those cheques you better be able to cash them.

I reckon with Jackson he is a serial pest. Guys are unsure whether he is serious or just joking. Those personalities take a lot of work. In a team environment they can be quite draining. Over years it becomes a mental image of gee this guy is hard work etc. Just my take on him just listening to podcasts and my short dealings with him.

Yeah I get a vibe he’s a bit of a marmite guy. He has good friends at previous clubs (Kai Pearce Paul comments on his Insta all the time for example), and it’s no shock that he butted heads with a guy who is himself someone that other blokes love or hate in John Bateman.
